A Beretta 92 pistol is carried by Hodges (Robert Duvall) as his personal weapon.
Actually, that's a Taurus PT92 in that particular scene (you can tell because it has the safety mounted on the frame, not on the slide), but I believe he uses a Beretta for the rest of the movie.
Smith and Wesson model 14
Sean Penn uses a 6" barrel S&W 14 as his on-duty service handgun
Smith and Wesson model 64
Sean Penn also carries a 3" barrel S&W 64 as a plainclothes/off duty handgun
