Gamera Rebirth
Gamera Rebirth (stylized as Gamera -Rebirth-) is a 2023 Netflix animated mini-series by Engi based off the giant turtle monster, Gamera, from the daikaiju film franchise of the same name. It was directed and co-written by Hiroyuki Seshita, Kenta Ihara, Hiroshi Seko, and Tetsuya Yamada.
In the summer of 1989 four kids witness Japan being attacked by several giant monsters but one of the monsters, a giant bipedal turtle which is named Gamera, appears to be an ally and is protecting the children from the other monsters. Now the kids must team up and uncover the mysteries surrounding the monsters attacking Japan and the mysterious Eustace Foundation studying them, and discover why Gamera is protecting them from the other monsters.
Not including video games, this anime marks both Gamera and Gyaos first onscreen appearance since Gamera's last film by Kadokawa, Gamera The Brave, which was released in 2006. The series is also notable for the return of several other enemy monsters who haven't been seen since their debut film appearances (not including stock footage, video games and comic books). It consists of six episodes, roughly 45 minutes each. The show was released on September 7, 2023.
The following weapons were used in the anime series Gamera Rebirth:
Pistols
Beretta 92F
Eustace Foundation scientist are seen armed with what appears to be Beretta 92F as they go to confront the newly hatched Jigers while they are still relatively small in "Under Current" (S1E02). They are again used by a poor scientist in a vain attempt to defend himself from the monster Viras in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" (S1E05).
Assault Rifles
M4 Carbine
Several solders can bee seen throughout the series armed with M4 Carbine first showing up in "Under Current" (S1E02). It is again seen in "Kill" (S1E04) as several poor soldiers carrying them got butchered by the monster Guiron before they even got a chance to defend themselves.
Machine Guns
Browning M2
Several Strykers and Humvees can bee seen armed with Browning M2 mounted on them in "Under Current" (S1E02). They show up again on Humvees being accosted by the monster Guiron in "Kill" (S1E04).
Launchers
M203 grenade launcher
Many of the soldiers are seen with M203 grenade launcher attached to their carbines in "Under Current" (S1E02). It shows up again in "Kill" (S1E04) as Guiron slaughters several soldiers in a surprise attack.
FGM-148 Javelin
The FGM-148 Javelin is used by the soldiers to combat the Jiger that grew to giant size in "Under Current" (S1E02).
Autocannons
M61A1 Vulcan
Several F-15 Eagles are deployed from a nearby U.S. Air Force base to fight the smaller Gyaos, starting off the fight with their M61 Vulcan rotary cannons before switching to their AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles in "Over Tokyo" (S1E01). Surprisingly for a piece of kaiju media they do manage to kill or harm several of the Gyaos, with both sides taking heavy loses in their conflict before the adult Gyaos shows up.
Phalanx CIWS
Several Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyers are seen armed with Phalanx CIWS in "Under Current" (S1E02) when they spot Gamera flying to the mainland to fight the monster Jiger, though they go unused. Not yet knowing Gamera is an ally, not an enemy, they attack the heroic turtle with RIM-66 Standard missiles. They're seen again in "Run Silent, Run Deep" (S1E03) as more Arleigh ships confront the sea monster Zigra attacking a cruise ship full of civilians in the middle of a storm at night. Once more they go unused as the ships opt instead to use torpedoes and naval guns. Later in the same episode the Eustace Foundation ship SERKET is armed with Phalanx CIWS as well as missile launchers that Emiko shows to the children as she gives them a tour of the ship. Sadly this weapon is never used in its battle against Zigra. Finally another Arleigh is seen armed with them in "Kill" (S1E04) but once more goes unused as the monster Guiron destroys the ship in a surprise attack before it can even retaliate.
Mark 38 25mm Machine Gun
Several Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyers are seen throughout the show armed with Mark 38 25mm Machine Guns on the "balconies" of their port and starboard sides first in Under Current" (S1E02) as they spot Gamera flying towards Jiger. Again during their night battle with with the sea monster Zigra in a storm "Run Silent, Run Deep" (S1E03) as he attacks a cruise ship full of civilians. Another Arleigh is seen with the chain guns in "Kill" (S1E04) but is destroyed by Guiron before it can even launch an attack. In all their appearances they are not used, the ships opting to use RIM-66 Standard missiles on Gamera before they knew he was an ally and the naval guns and torpedoes on Zigra.
Bofors 40mm L/60 Gun
Several AC-130 gunships help buy Gamera time for his final battle, firing several of their artillery cannons including the Bofors 40mm in "Childhood's End" (S1E06).
Artillery
M102 Howitzer
Several AC-130 gunships help buy Gamera time for his final battle, firing several of their artillery cannons including the M102 Howitzer in "Childhood's End" (S1E06).
5"/54 caliber Mark 45 gun
Several Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyers are seen armed with 5"/54 caliber Mark 45 gun in "Under Current" (S1E02) as they spot Gamera flying to the mainland to battle Jiger. The ships are ordered to fire their RIM-66 Standard missiles at the heroic monster as the world still does not yet know he is an ally of humanity, not an enemy. They are seen again in "Run Silent, Run Deep" (S1E03) as several Arleigh sail in a storm at night. This time being used against the sea monster Zigra (though off screen) along with torpedoes as he attacks cruise ships full of civilians. Another Arleigh ship is also seen with one early in the episode "Kill" (S1E04) but Guiron destroys the ship in an ambush before it even got a chance to counterattack. As Guiron attacks an oil platform converted into a Eustace Foundation research outpost later in the same episode, the base uses several 5"/54 caliber Mark 45 guns to buy time for personal to evacuate only to be cut in half by the monster's bizarre blade that is part of its head.
