Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (2002)

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (often abbreviated to simply Eternal Darkness) is a 2002 third-person horror action/adventure video game developed by Silicon Knights. It was released in 2002 exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube, and is the first game published by Nintendo to receive a Mature rating from the ESRB. The game utilized a patented sanity system, where damage to the player character's sanity would manifest as fourth wall breaking effects such as bugs crawling on the screen and false claims of memory card corruption in addition to more "mundane" events like the player character hallucinating their death by negligent discharge during a reload.

In the year 2000, Alexandra Roivas returns home to her ancestral estate in Rhode Island following the brutal murder of her grandfather, Edward Roivas. With the police proving unhelpful, Alexandra decides to investigate the mansion's grounds on her own. She uncovers that her grandfather was but one man in a long series of men and women who fought against an ancient evil that has threatened humanity for millenia. The fight cost her grandfather his life, and Alexandra learns that the battle is far from over, and will be one that she may have to finish herself. As she explores the family estate, the Book of Eternal Darkness shows her the battles of its past wielders, several of whom are recent enough to have access to firearms.
The following weapons appear in the video game Eternal Darkness:

Overview

Combat in the game revolves around the use of physical weapons, and magick spells that can damage enemies or heal/buff the player. Players control a large cast of characters over several millennia, the time period each character lives in determines the weapons available to them. Characters from antiquity, medieval era, and early modern period are primarily armed with weapons such as swords, maces, and crossbows, while characters from later centuries have access to firearms. Weapons are either in a character's inventory at the start, or found in levels. Attacks with both melee and ranged weapons can target various limbs of enemies for different effects, such as decapitating an enemy to blind them. While explicitly not designed to be a survival-horror game, inventory management must be undertaken throughout the game, with players having to carefully search for more ammunition and save what they do have for tougher fights.

Handguns

French Flintlock Pistol

Two Flintlock Pistols are used by the character Dr. Maximillian Roivas in 1760 AD, called the "Flintlock Pistol" in-game.

Tower Sea Service Flintlock Pistol used by the Royal Navy.
"Dual Flintlocks pistols for those who wish to fight "akimbo" style. The French Flintlock Holster pistol was in use from the 1680s. As a muzzle-loaded pistol, its rate of fire is rather low, but it packs a powerful punch."

Smith & Wesson Model 637 Airweight

A Smith & Wesson Model 637 Airweight is used by Alex Roivas in 2000 AD, called the "Revolver" in-game.

Smith and Wesson Model 637 Airweight - .38 Special
"This is a Smith & Wesson Model 637, one of the smaller revolvers in the Smith & Wesson family. This double-action revolver is capable of firing .38 Special ammunition, which allows for extra stopping power."

Colt M1911

A Colt M1911 is used by the character Dr. Edwin Lindsey in 1983 AD, called the "Automatic Pistol" in-game. As Dr. Lindsey's chapter takes place entirely within an ancient ruin untouched for centuries, no spare ammunition for it can be found throughout his level. Paul Augustine also uses this pistol in a brief cutscene at the beginning of the chapter.

Original Colt M1911 - .45 ACP
"Since 1907 this weapon has been a trusted sidearm to U.S. armed forces. Through two World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam, the Colt M1911 Automatic Pistol has proven itself to be a reliable firearm with good stopping power."
As the name implies the M1911 was adopted (And entered production) in 1911, not 1907.

Chamelot-Delvigne Mle. 1874

A Chamelot-Delvigne Mle. 1874 is used by the character Peter Jacob in 1916 AD, called the "Revolver" in-game. Oddly enough, the game describes it as an Mle 1892.

Chamelot-Delvigne Mle. 1874 Officer Model - 11x17.8mmR
"This Lebel Modele 1892 Revolver was introduced prior to World War One. A double-action pistol with a six-shot swing-out cylinder chambered for 8mm French Service ammunition."
The gun itself completely refutes this description, demonstrating the loading gate and the ejector (also located on the wrong side, making this image is a mirrored).

"Enfield Mk1 Star Revolver"

A revolver is used by Dr. Edward M. Roivas in 1952 AD, called the "Revolver" in-game. It is described as an Enfield Mk1 Revolver but the model looks rather different, with some features of the earlier Webley revolvers. Although the "Enfield"'s description correctly identifies it as being chambered in .380/200, its ammunition comes in the same boxes as the .38 Special rounds from Alex's time.

Webley RIC No. 1 First Pattern - .442 Webley
Webley "WG" Army Model - .455 Webley
For comparison: Enfield No.2 Mk.1* - .38 S&W
"This is an Enfield Mk1 Star Revolver, introduced prior to World War I. It is a double-action pistol with a six-shot top-break cylinder. The Enfield is chambered for .380 revolver ammunition."
The real Enfield Mk1 Star was introduced after WWI (although the in-game weapon seems to be partially based on some 19th century revolvers).

Glock 17

A Glock 17 is used by Michael Edwards in 1991 AD, called the "Pistol" in-game.

Glock 17 (Generation 1) -9x19mm
"The Glock 17 is a semi-automatic pistol, renowned for its resilience under harsh firing conditions - the Glock can even fire underwater! The Glock fires 9mm pistol ammunition."

Shotguns

Remington Model 870

This Remington Model 870 in the USMC configuration (as noted by its description) is used by the character Dr. Edwin Lindsey in 1983 AD, called the "Shotgun" in-game. Like the M1911, no spare ammunition for it is found in the chapter.

Remington M870 with USMC configuration - 12 Gauge
"A Remington M-870 Shotgun, slightly modified with an extended tube magazine, choke barrel, rifle sights, and bayonet lug. This is the same shotgun used by the U.S. Marine Corps since 1970."

Ithaca Auto & Burglar Model A

An Ithaca Auto & Burglar Model A double-barreled shotgun is used by Dr. Edward M. Roivas in 1952 AD, called the "Double Shotgun" in-game.

Ithaca Model A - 12 Gauge
"The Ithaca Model 'A' Shotgun was also known as the Auto or Home Burglar Gun. A double-barreled, breech-loaded shotgun, it is capable of firing one or both barrels simultaneously."

Winchester Model 1300 Ranger

A Winchester Model 1300 Ranger is used by Alex Roivas in 2000 AD, called the "Shotgun" in-game. It is described as "Defender", but in fact it is a field "Ranger" variant.

Winchester Model 1300 Ranger - 12 gauge
"The Winchester Model 1300 Defender is quite possibly one of the finest pump-action shotguns available. The unique slide action operates a rotating bolt, and unlocking is recoil-assisted, making it very fast and smooth to cycle."
Whoever wrote the description for the Model 1300 was clearly very partial to this model of shotgun.

Rifles

Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I

A Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I is used by Peter Jacob in 1916 AD, called the "Rifle" in-game. In the game, it is described as the Mk. III model, but the rifle itself seems to be based on a later No.4 Mk.I. This makes it anachronistic to 1916, as the No. 4 rifle was first produced in the late 1930s.

Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk. I - .303 British
"The Lee-Enfield Mk III bolt-action rifles are legends in their own time. Completely reliable even under adverse conditions over three million were produced in Britain, India and Australia."

Holland & Holland Rifle

A Holland & Holland Double Rifle chambered for .500 Nitro is used by Dr. Edward M. Roivas in 1952 AD, called the "Elephant Gun" in-game. It is predictably one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and if fired without fully steadying Dr. Rovias' aim, he will be knocked back.

Holland & Holland 'Royal' Double Barrel Rifle - various calibres
"The Holland and Holland Double Rifle fires an enormous .50 x 3" nitro slug, quite capable of stopping a rhino or elephants dead in their tracks. Only a crazy man would feel comfortable facing a 'Holland and Holland.'"

XM29 OICW

A Heckler & Koch XM29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon is used by Michael Edwards in 1991 AD, called the "Assault Rifle" in game. It is easily the best ranged weapon in the game, being the only fully-automatic weapon available and also has the highest capacity of any gun. The grenade launcher is also the only explosive weapon available to the player in the game.

XM29 OICW - 5.56x45mm/20x28mm
"The Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) is a Heckler & Koch G-36 rifle mounted under a 20mm grenade cannon. It is commonly assigned to Special Forces units. The rifle uses a 30-round clip and is chambered for 5.56mm NATO ammunition."
The game describes it as being "commonly assigned" to special forces, which is untrue as the OICW was never produced past a handful of prototypes, and never issued to any combat unit.
