Maverick (1994)

Maverick is the 1994 feature film adaptation of the 1957 Western television series of the same name that starred James Garner. Directed by Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon) and written by William Goldman (Marathon Man, A Bridge Too Far, Misery), the film stars Mel Gibson as Bret Maverick, a card-playing gambler and con artist intent on making enough money to enter a high-stakes poker tournament. The film also co-stars Jodie Foster, Alfred Molina, and original television series star James Garner as Marshal Zane Cooper.

Single Action Army "Quick Draw"

Bret Maverick (Mel Gibson) carries a Single Action Army "Quick Draw" model with a 4 3~4 inch barrel and wooden grips as his sidearm. Maverick evidently keeps it with all six loaded, as opposed to many actual Old West gunfighters, evident in the scene in which Annabelle Bransford (Jodie Foster) accidentally discharges his revolver when she falls on his holster, and when Maverick tells she and Coop that he has "six bullets" when facing off against the bandits. Several characters, most notably the bank robbers who hold up Maverick, carry the "Quickdraw" model of the Single Action Army revolver.

The bank robber (Danny Glover) holds a nickel Quickdraw model during the robbery when Maverick discovers Eugene (Geoffrey Lewis) was holding out on him. Glover's appearance is a nod to the Lethal Weapon series (also directed by Richard Donner) (as is the music playing when they "recognize" each other). That may be the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Single Action Army "Artillery"

In some scenes, Maverick holds instead the Artillery model of the Single Action Army.

Maverick draws his SAA on Annabelle and Coop. This appears to be an Artillery instead of Quick Draw.

Single Action Army (Bird's Head Grip)

Marshal Zane Cooper (James Garner) keeps what appears to be a Single Action Army with white Bird's Head grips as his backup weapon, which Maverick (Mel Gibson) grabs and fires during the confrontation aboard the Lauren Belle after the poker game.

Single Action Army .45 Long Colt with nickel finish, pearl "Bird's Head" grips, and custom muzzle brake. This is the actual screen-used pistol seen in the film Kill Bill Vol. 2. The revolver in Maverick lacks the muzzle brake.

Marshal Zane "Coop" Cooper (James Garner) draws his Remington and Colt outside the outlaw camp.

Remington 1866 Derringer

Angel (Alfred Molina) keeps a Remington 1866 Derringer up his sleeve on a device similar to the one used by Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver.

Colt 1851 Navy (Richards-Mason Conversion)

Commodore Duvall (James Coburn) confronts Marshal Cooper with a Colt 1851 Navy with a Richards-Mason cartridge conversion. Maverick takes the revolver when he comes across them.

HJS Frontier Four Derringer

Mrs. Annabelle Bransford (Jodie Foster) keeps an engraved HJS Frontier Four Derringer, a modern version of Sharps Pepperbox, which she lends to Maverick (Mel Gibson) to use during his battle with the outlaws. A woman ejected from the poker game on the Lauren Belle also has a Frontier Four in her purse, which falls out. Two engraved Frontier Four derringers were specially made for the movie by HJS Arms Incorporated (see The HJS Frontier Four Derringer by Ed Buffaloe).
