Sergio Leone (January 3, 1929 – April 30, 1989) was an Italian film director who was active from 1961 to 1984, both as a director of his own films and as a producer of other productions. Leone is considered the pioneer and main person responsible for the fame that Western had in the Italy cinema during the 60s.

Sergio Leone began his career as a director with the film The Colossus of Rhodes, but would not receive recognition as a director until the making of his first western, A Fistful of Dollars in 1964. After the success his first western, Leone continued producing more films of the genre, making a trilogy that would continue with For a Few Dollars More and conclude with the classic The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Sergio Leone would lose his life on April 30, 1989 due to a heart attack.
