From the Life of a Chief of the Criminal Police (Iz zhizni nachalnika ugolovnogo rozyska) is a 1983 Russian detective movie directed by Stepan Puchinyan and starring Kirill Lavrov as colonel Ivan Malych, chief of criminal police of a small town, and Leonid Filatov as Stepan Slepnyov, former criminal who by chance becomes a new neighbor of Malych.
