The Passage
The Passage is a 1979 British action war drama directed by J. Lee Thompson.
During World War II, men from the French resistance convince an unnamed shepherd known only as The Basque (Anthony Quinn) to smuggle a VIP across the border from France to neutral Spain. This person is Professor Berger (James Mason), whom the Nazis need for their secret weapons development program. The Basque lives on a lonely farm near the border, knows the area better than anyone else, and has often helped the resistance in the past, and is offered 5,000 pesetas to sweeten the deal. The Basque goes to Toulouse, where he finds that he must not only transport Professor Bergson, but also his wife Ariel (Patricia Neal), daughter Lea (Kay Lenz), and son Paul (Paul Clemens). Despite The Basque's reservations, the group begin their journey across the Pyrenees Mountains. The Germans are hot on their trail, led by a sadistic SS officer.
