Talk:Malone (1987)

Before I mess with the edit function, I thought I'd start by talking. The sniper rifle used by Malone at the start of the movie is not a Winchester Model 70, it's a SIG SSG 2000. I see IMFDB doesn't yet have that rifle listed on the SIG-Sauer page MadMark (talk) 21:37, 7 January 2017 (EST)MadMarkMadMark (talk) 21:37, 7 January 2017 (EST)

It's not on the SIG-Sauer page because we don't have a page for the SIG SSG 2000 at all. And I've seen a few sites list production starting in 1989, so I don't see how it could be used in a movie in 1987. --Funkychinaman (talk) 00:09, 8 January 2017 (EST)

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this. I don't know when the rifle went into producion but it's not hard to imagine a major Hollywood star like Burt Reynolds getting his hands on a pre-production rifle if your source is correct. At any rate the rifle is quite distinctive and is shown in a long slow pan from muzzle to buttstock early in the film. I don't have any good screencaps of it but you can see the scene on Youtube; https://youtu.be/cWSFGDALa60?t=1m59s

Note in particular the muzzle, the vertical bolt handle (Winchester, Remington and most others would be canted backwards) the gas vent ports visible on the bolt body through the ejection port, and the bolt shroud with no safety visible on it like a Winchester nor beside it like a Remington. That's because it's located on the tang with the SIG-Sauer even though the stock is a pseudo thumbhole.
