Was XM25's test stopped ?

I heard XM25's test was stopped by malfunction-caused shooter's injury.

I like this gun, if it's truth, I feel so sad.

Someone should've explained that to the politicians then. According to this, " 'A malfunction during this [weapon's deployment in Afghanistan] has raised very serious questions about the safety and effectiveness of the weapon. The committee further understands that the Army is in the process of opening consideration of other available or developmental grenade launchers that are capable of firing programmable munitions,' reads a copy of the committee's report on the 2014 defense-funding bill. 'Given the unreliable performance of the XM-25 and the Army's review of alternative air burst weapon systems, the committee recommends a decrease of $69.1 million in [the 2014 budget request] for the XM-25 counter defilade target engagement weapon system.'

That "decrease" accounts for the entire cash amount the Army asked for to buy 1,400 of the weapons in its 2014 budget request. "

It is a bit odd. This might be the worst time for a weapons system to start acting up, with the sequester and all, but it's not like the politicians didn't want the Army to spend ANY money, just on something other than this, which already has millions sunk into it. The XM109 is about as much of an alternative to the XM25 as the M240 is to the M4: Completely different class of weapon designed for a different purpose. Believe me, I'm as interested as you are in what supposed "alternative" ABW systems are out there. Last I checked, the XM25 was basically the lone hermit on the mountain. 5900 is the number of rounds since the last injury caused by a malfunction, which was also an out of battery detonation. I seem to remember though that this first one was caused by a design flaw that has since been rectified, whereas this one was a double feed causing an OOB detonation. To me it this sounds more like an ammunition issue to me rather than a fault with the gun (talking about OOB rather than the double feed). There has been some questions about the lethality of the 25mm warhead it fires, I wouldn't be surprised if this was an excuse to save face by blaming it on the specific weapon rather than the concept being a flawed one. commando552 (talk) 17:19, 31 July 2013 (EDT)

Seems to have turned out they eliminated the budget to buy 1.5k launchers this year rather than the entire program budget. Army says it's planning to buy 1,100 of them next year. Evil Tim (talk) 14:07, 18 September 2014 (EDT)

Apparently current rumours from inside the defence industry are that the US Military is considering axing the XM25 and sticking the fire control system on a 40mm launcher firing some kind of direct-fire SAGM derivative.
