Hornblower: Mutiny is the fifth installment of the Hornblower series of British historical war television films based on the works of C. S. Forester and starring Ioan Gruffudd as Royal Navy officer Horatio Hornblower during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. In Mutiny, set in 1801, Hornblower is the third Lieutenant aboard HMS Renown, a ship-of-the-line under the command of the famous Captain James Sawyer traveling to Santo Domingo on a mission to destroy a Spanish fort. Not long after setting sail it becomes clear Captain Sawyer is mentally unstable; when he irrationally suspects his officers - including Hornblower - plotting against him, he plans to arrest them. In doing so he falls head-first into the hold - under mysterious circumstances. Rendered incapable of resuming command, Buckland, the rather hesitant first lieutenant, takes charge. The film is based on the first part of the novel Lieutenant Hornblower.

Pistols

Dueling Flintlock Pistol

Captain James Sawyer (David Warner) owns a matched pair of Flintlock Pistols. These guns have an unusual combination of faceted barrel, typical for target or dueling pistols, belt hook that is seen on naval service pistols, and captured swivel ramrod, similar to the one used on the New Land Pattern pistols. For the most part, except for the ramrod and the belt hook, these guns resemble Pedersoli replica of Charles Moore Dueling Pistol.

In the night scene on the ship's deck, Sawyer offers Hornblower a pistol and tells to shoot him.

One of the pistols fires when Captain falls into the hold.
