It appears as though the magazine is in BACKWARDS.

Notice the black strip on the magazine; that's electrical tape holding two magazaines together. The 'backwards' magazine is a second one taped to the loaded magazine. This is known as 'jungle style', and was first used by U.S. soldiers in Vietnam with early-model M16's prior to the introduction of the 30-round magazines and became a common practice for action movies during the next couple decades.
