The SVD-38 (Samozaryadnaya Vintovka Degtyareva, Obrazets 1938 goda), "Degtyarev self-loading rifle, model of 1938" is a prototype Soviet semi-automatic battle rifle designed by Vasily A. Degtyarev; it is gas-operated, using a similar flapper-locked design to his earlier 1932 prototype, and his better-known machine gun design.
The SVD-38 was developed at TsKB-2. It featured an attached bayonet knife, a 10-round removable magazine, and a mount for a UVP scope.
