DEFA cannon

The DEFA cannon series (Direction des Études et Fabrications d'Armement, English: Department of Armaments Studies and Manufacturing), is a series of French 30mm revolving cannons. It was the primary gun of French fighter and strike aircraft, most prolifically on the Dassault Mirage series and its Israeli derivatives, the IAI Nesher and IAI Kfir. The first variant, the DEFA 552, was introduced in 1952 and first used on the Dassault Mystère. It was replaced by the introduction of the GIAT 30, introduced alongside the Dassault Rafale in 2001.
