Whispering Smith is a 1948 Western movie directed by Leslie Fenton and starring Alan Ladd as Luke "Whispering" Smith, a detective of a railroad company on the Old West. The movie is based on a 1906 same title novel by Frank H. Spearman that was adapted for wide screen and television several times, including 1926 film and 1961 TV series.

Revolvers
Single Action Army
Single Action Army revolvers are widely used throughout the movie, seen in hands of Luke "Whispering" Smith (Alan Ladd), his friend of old Murray Sinclair (Robert Preston), train robbers brothers Blake Barton (Murvyn Vye) and Leroy Barton (Ward Wood) (third brother, Gabby Barton (Bob Kortman) isn't seen with a gun), secret gang boss Barney Rebstock (Donald Crisp), his henchman Whitey Du Sang (Frank Faylen), and railroad company employee Bill Dansing (William Demarest). Nearly all revolvers are of "Artillery" model, though some "Civilian" SAA revolvers also can be seen. Smith's revolvers have stag horn grips (such revolvers are used by Alan Ladd in many roles in Western movies), and Rebstock's revolver has ivory grips.

Rifles
Winchester Model 1892 Carbine
Winchester Model 1892 carbines are used by Luke "Whispering" Smith (Alan Ladd), Murray Sinclair (Robert Preston), Blake (Murvyn Vye) and Leroy (Ward Wood) Bartons, and railroad company employees George McCloud (John Eldredge) and Bill Dansing (William Demarest) (the latter only carries a carbine in saddle holster). Two different carbines are used, a standard Saddle Ring carbine and another version with visibly shorter barrel.

In several scenes Barney Rebstock (Donald Crisp) and Luke "Whispering" Smith (Alan Ladd) use Winchester Model 1892 short rifles (most likely a single prop reused) with a well-defined faceted barrel.

Two long guns are briefly seen on the wall in saloon. They have exposed hammers, so these are possibly shotguns, but may be percussion cap or even flintlock muskets.
