Thompson M1A1
U.S. submachine gun, generally seen in the hands of the ARVN soldiers, the M1A1 is also the signature weapon of the engineer Dutch. Accurate and powerful it features a 30 rounds magazine, despite the 3D models which resemble a 20 round magazine. In multiplayer it is quite commonly seen in the hands of an expert player.

Carl Gustaf M/45
Thompson M1A1
Swedish submachine gun used by special forces. The player starts equipped with it during the first mission. It features a 36 round magazine and high rate of fire (despite the real one having a somewhat slow rate of fire). It is commonly used by the ARVN soldiers during the first two mission of the Vietcong single player campaign.

Sterling L2A3
+

British submachine gun, used only by Cobber in several missions. In the game it is called "Sterling L34A1", but that is wrong, because the L34A1 model features an integral sound suppressor. Uses 34 round magazine and like the M/45, it features a fire rate higher than its real counterpart. Shares ammo with the M/45 and the Sten.

Sten Mark IIS
+
Carl Gustaf M/45
Another British submachine gun, fitted with silencer. The Sten Mk IIS isn't used by any character, nor is it even a starting equipment in any mission, but one may be found in the second mission while entering in the building occupied by Vietcong in front of the bridge. Shares the same 9x19mm ammunition of the M/45 and of the Sterling.

Ingram MAC-10
U.S. machine pistol. Theoretically it was used by the U.S. Special Forces, but in game it isn't used by any character and cannot be find during any missions. It may be used in multiplayer or selected as primary weapon in the "Single Mission" mode. Oddly its ammunition in the game is the 7.65mm Browning, the same of the Vz.61 (probably for more direct comparison between the two guns), moreover both the M10 and Vz.61 have the same firing sound.

Colt XM177E2
Assault carbine used by U.S. Special forces, equipped in five missions during the single player campaign and issued to the ARVN's Hac Bao riflemen during the last mission. While using the iron sight it is notable that the rear sight in the carrying handle is missing. Shares the magazine with the M16.

Colt XM177E2
Main U.S. assault rifle, appears as "M16". Used by the U.S. Army and Marines, ARVN Soldiers, and Australian Soldiers throughout the game. Uses 20 round magazines loaded with 18 rounds, probably to avoid jamming(though it never happens in game). There is a second version fitted with an experimental Colt XM148 grenade launcher.

Australian/British battle rifle. Despite the real rifle being capable of semiautomatic fire only, in the game it can switch fire mode between automatic and semiautomatic, just as the M14. Cobber (the medic) uses it in the last mission but the player never uses it, while in multiplayer it is available only for the U.S. "Infantry" class. Shares ammunition reserve with M14 and the XM21.In real life SLR has no full auto and only fires semi automatic only.

The machine gun are normally unusable during the multiplayer game, because due their high fire-power the server administrators normally lock the "Machine gunner" class of both team.

Browning Automatic Rifle M1918A2
Old U.S. squad automatic weapon, alternative weapon to the M60 for the U.S. machine-gunner. Quite easy to find along both campaign, it works like an "empowered" M14, with high rate of fire (when killed, a BAR gunner drop the same ammunition pouches of the M60)

Main U.S. general purpose machine gun also nicknamed "the Pig" or "the Hog". It is obviously the signature weapon of Stone, the U.S. machine gunner and moreover the Vietnamese machine gunner Tran use it during the first mission of the Vietcong campaign (the night assault on a ARVN compound). The model seen in game feature the rear sight raised and the bipod removed. It may be used by the player as individual weapon (using 100 round pouches, for a maximal number of 400 round) or mounted on fortified positions and patrol Jeeps, with unlimited ammunition and Used By U.S. ARVN and Australian soldier Cobbler.

Medium machine gun. In single player may be seen only mounted on a M50 "Ontos" anti-tank armored vehicle. Can be used in multiplayer by "Machine gunner" class of both teams as a tripod-mounted support weapon. It feature unlimited ammunition, but is affected by barrel overheating and used by U.S., South Vietnamese, and Australian Soldiers.

Springfield Armory M14
Classic heavy machine gun. Common along both campaign, mostly seen mounted over U.S. vehicle such as M-113 APC, armed REO M35 trucks, UH-1 transport helicopters and M48 Patton tanks. In multiplayer is usable by U.S. machine gunners in similar manner to the M1919A4: compared to its .30 caliber sister the M2 have a slower fire rate but a major stopping power.

U.S. pump action shotgun, commonly used by the Australian radioman Tommyboy and is seen in the hand of the ARVN Captain Soat. Extremely powerful at short and short/medium range, it feature synthetic furniture instead of the wood one's in use at that time. Its worst drawback are the slow rate of fire and the long reload time.

Winchester Model 70
.30'06 caliber bolt action rifle, its most distinctive characteristic is the raised pantograph-style rear sight. Extremely powerful, it feature the slowest reloading animation where the character take  more than a second to insert a single cartridge. May be found only during the last mission of the U.S.

campaign, in multiplayer is not so popular, probably due its long reload time.

Remington M40
U.S. Marine Corps bolt action sniper rifle, the weapon 3D models seems based on a M40A1 and then "skinned" with a wood-style texture. Despite it must be reloaded with similar operations to that used on the model 70, here a character can load more or less 3 cartridge per second. Use 5.56x45 cartridge, extremely odd since the M40 as been ever chambered for the 7.62 NATO ammunition.

First version of the M21 marksman rifle, appear to be created using one of the latest military issue M21 rifle as model because the scope and the scope attachments are different from the original low-profile ART telescope. It uses the same ammunition reserve of the automatic M14 and of the L1A1, making it the sniper rifle with the major number of ammunition. Probably the most common weapon used by the U.S. sniper in multiplayer, despite is also the most weak sniper rifle of the game.

U.S. smoke grenade. The gamer will never acquire them in single player, but are used by the U.S. engineer Dutch to cover the team's action during scripted scenes. In multiplayer can be selected bi the most part of the classes (in certain class are the unique grenade type available) of both teams. In the version 1.0 of the game, the grenade release (unrealistically) a cloud of white smoke, but the game patched to version 1.1 permit to select the color of the smoke released by grenade between four color: red, yellow, green or purple.

U.S. explosive hand grenade, the fragmentation effect is not reproduced in game. Despite the real grenade had an oval shape, the grenades seen in game are round shaped like the more modern M67 grenade. Moreover the grenade are completely painted black and did not show any type of marking over it. At the first press of the "fire button", the spoon safe over the grenade will be dropped an the fuse will be activated. The grenade throw will be "charged" only with a second press of the "fire button".

U.S. disposable anti tank rocket launcher, the game claims erroneously that the M72 LAW use a 85mm rocket. The player can carry a single LAW for time, but differently from the RPG-7 it is not a primary weapon and can be carried along other rifles. Such as the M79 and the XM148, in multiplayer this weapon is subject to heavy restriction by game administrator.

French submachine gun. The MAT-49 is a remain of the French army from the First Indochina Conflict. Commonly seen in the hand of the Vietcong fighters during the U.S. campaign. Quite accurate, like the major part of the U.S. submachine guns feature a too high rate of fire. Use 9x18mm Makarov ammunition, instead of the original 9x19mm Parabellum or the 7.62x25mm Tokarev chambered in the locally converted models. Despite it have its proper "shoot sound" in the game's archives, fore some unknown reason use the same sound of the Vz.61, like the MAC-10.

Springfield Armory XM21
Soviet semiautomatic carbine with folded blade bayonet. Quite accurate, its bigger drawback is the low capacity of its magazine. However, the SKS is enough common also in multiplayer. In singleplayer can be find in almost all the mission of both campaign. As the C96 it may be reloaded also with bullet loaded into the box magazine and as the C96, during the reload animation, all the cartridge will be shifted into the magazine, despite the presence of other round inside.

Czech assault rifle with folding stock, it can be considered the most incorrectly represented weapon of the game. Despite the differences between the real weapons, in game the Vz. 58V is exactly similar to the AK-47. Use the same AK-47 fire sounds, despite into the game's archives are preset its own sounds. A further error: after patching the game to version 1.1, the Vz.58 is renamed Type 56/1, without any change of the 3D models.

German assault rifle of the World War II, featuring a high fire rate and very good stopping power and accuracy. The StG-44 is the best weapon of the Vietcong faction. Can be find only in the third mission of the U.S. single player campaign. In multiplayer instead is really appreciate, and is normal to see it in action in the most intense firefight. However, all this efficiency did not hide two technical error: the wrong caliber chambering (the real rifle use 7.92x33mm Kurz ammunition) and the fire rate, equal to that featured on weapon like the M16 and the PPSh-41

Nice, but where's the trigger?

Vietcong 2 (2005)

Vietcong 2 is the sequel of the tactical first person shooter Vietcong. As in the first edition, the player will take the lead of a Special Force's team of the US army during the Vietnam War, as the Captain Daniel Boone. Differently from is predecessor, this time is possible to play as a Vietcong in a short secondary campaign and act the part of Minh, a young Vietnamese from an unknown village in South Vietnam. Both US and Vietcong campaigns take place during the "Tet offensive" in January '68, around the city of Hue.

Arsenal management:
During the single player campaigns the player is allowed to transport a knife, a handgun, two primary weapon and a lot various equipment (two type of hand grenades, C4 explosives, LAW and a first-aid kit). Differently from Vietcong the player cannot choose his starting equipment during the campaign, this possibility is present only in the "Single Mission" mode, where the gamer can play the missions one by one. With few exception, the non-playing character haven not a "fixed" weapon but a casually selected weapon: it's easily notable that the most part of the enemy may be equipped with different guns each time you play a mission. Also can be noted some "weapon groups" for this variations: earlier Vietcong may spawn armed with a SKS or a MAT-49 or a PPSh-41, NVA soldier and later Vietcong are armed with a SKS or a SA Vz.58 or an AK-47, VC machine gunners may have a SA Vz.58 or a RPD-44 for example. The exceptions are the teammate, the snipers, the RPG gunners and the Vietcong armed with the Baikal IZH-43. However these last two gunman drop a casually generated handgun.
Another notably odd (and ghastly) thing is that the most part of the weapon are chambered with a wrong caliber, but all these error will be described in the weapon details.
