Universal Soldier (1992)

Universal Soldier is the 1992 science fiction action film directed by Roland Emmerich and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren as US combat troops who after being killed in action during the Vietnam War, are resurrected in present day as genetically-enhanced super soldiers. The film would eventually spawn a few DTV sequels as well as three more feature films: 1999's Universal Soldier: The Return, 2009's Universal Soldier: Regeneration and 2012's Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.

The following weapons were used in the film Universal Soldier:

Rifles

M16A1 Rifle

In 1969, an M16A1 is used by Pvt. Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) while in Vietnam. Deveraux uses his bayonet-fixed M16A1 rifle to kill Sgt. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) by bayoneting and shooting Scott numerous times (while at the same time, Deveraux is shot by Scott's M1911A1 pistol). A number of US solders were seen armed with M16A1 rifles and M16A1 rifles fitted with M16A2 handguards when the film shifts to 1992.

M16A1 with 20 round magazine - 5.56x45mm. What distinguishes it from the original M16 was the addition of a raised rib around the magazine release button, changing of the forward Receiver pins, and the addition of the forward assist button on the upper receiver.

M16A1 with A2 style handguards - 5.56x45mm. Putting the distinctive A2 handguards on the older rifle was a method used by Movie/TV armorers to simulate A2 rifles when M16A1s were the only ones available.

M14 Rifle

The M14 is seen in the hands of a U.S. soldier in Vietnam at the beginning of the film. TRIVIA: The soldier with the M14 is played by Michael Jai White, who would later go on to star in Universal Soldier: The Return as S.E.T.H., the primary antagonist of the film.

CETME

CETME rifles are used by terrorists at the Hoover Dam.

Barrett M82A1

A SWAT sniper is seen with what appears to be a Barrett M82A1. Only the smooth side and vented barrel is visible for an ID.

Heckler & Koch SR9(T)

A SWAT sniper is seen with an Heckler & Koch SR9(T) fitted with a Starlight scope during the Hoover Dam hostage situation.

Heckler & Koch SR9(T). This is a 'faux' SR9(T) movie gun converted from an HK91, with an SG/1 style buttstock (instead of the correct MSG90 style) and PSG trigger pack - 7.62x51mm

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch SP89 (converted to resemble MP5K)

What appear to be Heckler & Koch MP5K submachine guns fitted with Imatronic LS45 laser sights are used by GR44/Luc Deveraux, GR13/Sgt Andrew Scott, and GR55 (Tommy "Tiny" Lister) when investigating the breaking onto the base by reporter Veronica Roberts (Ally Walker). Upon closer examination, the MP5Ks were in reality the similar looking Heckler & Koch SP89 modified to resemble the MP5K. These modified SMGs were frequently used in movies made between 1989 and the late 1990s when factory original MP5Ks were not available. These "MP5K" weapons are fitted with the early LS45 laser sight.

A "faux" Heckler & Koch MP5K - this is an original SP89 pistol converted to full auto fire by a Class III armorer. Giveaways are the lack of a paddle magazine release. This version was also used in movies between 1989 and the late 1990s when factory original MP5Ks were not available - 9mm

GR44 (Jean-Claude Van Damme) with his "faux" MP5K fitted with an LS45 laser sight. The lack of paddle release is the usual indication that the weapon is a SP89.

During the hotel shootout, GR55 (Tommy "Tiny" Lister) holds the SP89 with the Imatronic LS45 laser sight on.

Heckler & Koch MP5K

Although most of the Heckler & Koch MP5Ks carried by the UniSols in the movie are actually partially-converted Heckler & Koch SP89s (as discussed above), at least one of the guns used on the set appears to have been a full MP5K conversion with the SEF trigger pack and paddle magazine release. The MP5K is seen close-up being fired by UniSol GR74 (Ralf Moeller) at GR44 and Veronica Roberts as they escape from the UniSol base, and later briefly in the hands of GR13/Sgt Andrew Scott prior to the assault on the gas station where GR44 and Veroncia are holed up.

Sten Mk V

A Sten Mk V with the forward grip removed is seen in the hands by one of the Hoover Dam terrorists that is taken by GR44.

Handguns

Desert Eagle Mark VII

The Desert Eagle Mark VII is the sidearm used by the Universal Soldiers, including GR44/Pvt. Luc Deveraux (Jean Claude Van Damme) and GR13/Sgt. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren). The Desert Eagles used by the UniSols were chambered for the .357 Magnum round and fitted with Tasco Laser Point sights under the handgun's barrel. Their Desert Eagles are fitted with suppressors during the mission during the opening hostage situation.

TRIVIA: Allegedly, the setup of the Desert Eagles in this movie, with laser sight and suppressor, bore some influence on the final design of the Offensive Handgun Weapon System (OHWS) for USSOCOM, which culminated in the development of the Heckler & Koch MK 23 Mod 0 with an Insight Technology Laser Aiming Module (LAM) and Knight's Armament Company suppressor.

IMI Desert Eagle Mark VII - .357 Magnum

GR44 (Jean Claude Van Damme) holds the suppressed Desert Eagle. The pistol is also fitted with a Tasco Laser Point sight under the handgun's barrel.

GR13 (Dolph Lundgren) holds his suppressed Desert Eagle.

Taurus PT92

The Terrorist leader (Thomas Rosales Jr.) pulls his blued Taurus PT92 when UniSol GR74 (Ralf Moeller) appears as an Electrician at the Hoover Dam.

A nickel-plated Taurus PT92CS is the sidearm of Colonel Perry (Ed O'Ross).

M1911A1

An M1911A1 is used by Sgt. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) in the Vietnam scenes at the beginning of the film.

World War 2 issued Colt M1911A1 Pistol - .45 ACP.

Scott (Dolph Lundgren) fires his 1911 as he's being shot by Luc.

Smith & Wesson Model 39

Luc Deveraux (Jean Claude Van Damme) takes a Smith & Wesson Model 39 pistol from the deceased Prison Bus driver and uses the handgun to shoot GR74 (Ralf Moeller) in the UniSol truck after the UniSol truck rammed the Prison Bus and was pushing it into the Grand Canyon.

Heckler & Koch P9

Although he'd been shot multiple times, UniSol GR74 (Ralf Moeller) still is able to pull a Heckler & Koch P9S from his tool box to use on the terrorists. One of the Universal Soldier project technicians also is seen pulling out a Heckler & Koch P9 from the weapon racks after GR13/Sgt. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) re-entered the UniSol truck and announced that he "relieved" Col. Perry of his command. All of the Universal Soldiers also carry the P9 as secondary sidearms in a unique shoulder holster with two spare magazines located right above it under their left arms. It is never used or drawn in the film.

M60 Machine Gun

The M60 is used by Sgt. Andrew Scott/GR13 (Dolph Lundgren) during the motel shootout and also in the Prison Bus escape.

An Armsel Striker/Protector automatic shotgun is used by UniSol GR74 (Ralf Moeller) during the attack on the Motel.
