The Outpost is a 2020 war film directed by Rod Lurie and adapted from the 2012 non-fiction book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by Jake Tapper. The film depicts the real-life Battle of Kamdesh, which occurred on October 3, 2009 when Taliban fighters assaulted U.S. Army soldiers at Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan's Nuristan Province, resulting in one of the bloodiest battles of the War in Afghanistan. The film stars Scott Eastwood as Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha and Caleb Landry Jones as Specialist Ty Carter, who both earned the Medal of Honor for their actions during the battle.

The following weapons were used in the film The Outpost:

Rifles/Carbines

M4A1 Carbine

The M4A1 Carbine is used by nearly all of the U.S. Army soldiers at Combat Outpost Keating (COP Keating), including Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha (Scott Eastwood) and Specialist Ty Carter (Caleb Landry Jones). The M4A1 Carbines are all fitted with ACOG sights and side-mounted AN/PEQ-2 laser aiming modules.

Soldiers at the outpost fire their M4A1s during a salute to a fallen comrade.
CPT Robert Yllescas (Milo Gibson) holds a M4A1 carbine during a patrol.
SPC Daniel Rodriguez (portrayed by himself) fires a M4A1 Carbine during the battle.
SPC Ty Carter (Caleb Landry Jones) reloads his M4A1 Carbine during the battle. Note that his carbine lacks the stepped barrel that is seen on genuine M4 carbines.
A close-up of SSG Romesha's M4A1 reveals that the lower receiver was built by Oberland Arms, a German manufacturer of AR15-pattern rifles.

AK-47

The Taliban fighters who assault COP Keating are mostly armed with AK-47 variants. Local villagers and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers are also seen with AK-47s.

Arsenal AR-F

Bulgarian Arsenal AR-F rifles are used by Taliban fighters, likely due to the fact that most of the film was shot in Bulgaria.

Taliban fighters armed with AR-F rifles advance into COP Keating. Note that the rifle in the foreground has a rail on the receiver for attaching sights.

SVD Dragunov

SSG Clint Romesha (Scott Eastwood) uses a SVD Dragunov sniper rifle taken from an Afghan soldier to engage an enemy sniper during the Battle of Kamdesh.

SSG Romesha (Scott Eastwood) aims the SVD Dragunov sniper rifle. In real life, Romesha did in fact use a SVD Dragunov to silence an enemy sniper who was attacking one of the outpost's armored Humvees.

Handguns

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta 92FS, standing in for the Beretta M9, are used by the officers at the outpost, including Captain Benjamin Keating (Orlando Bloom), Captain Sylvanius Broward (Kwame D. Patterson), and medical officer Captain Chris Cordova (George Arvidson). Specialist Daniel Rodriguez (portraying himself) is seen using a Beretta 92FS when responding to the initial Taliban attack.

Machine Guns

FN M240B

M240B GPMGs are used by U.S. Army soldiers while defending the outpost, most notably by Staff Sergeant Justin T. Gallegos (Jacob Scipio). SSG Romesha also uses a M240B during the Battle of Kamdesh.

FN Minimi (Modified to resemble M249 Paratrooper)

A modified FN Minimi, standing in for the M249 SAW Paratrooper, is used by U.S. Army soldiers during the battle. The weapon appears to have been an older model FN Minimi with its barrel shortened and a paratrooper stock added based on the retention of the flared flash hider and straight carry handle. The Minimi is also equipped with an ELCAN M145 sight to resemble the M249s used by American troops.
