Ever since I heard this quote from Quentin Tarantino in the film Sleep With Me, I haven't been able to look at this movie the same again. Warning, strong language:

Sid: You want subversion on a massive level. You know what one of the greatest fucking scripts ever written in the history of Hollywood is? Top Gun.

Duane: Oh, come on.

Sid: Top Gun is fucking great. What is Top Gun? You think it's a story about a bunch of fighter pilots.

Duane: It's about a bunch of guys waving their dicks around.

Sid: It is a story about a man's struggle with his own homosexuality. It is! That is what Top Gun is about, man. You've got Maverick, all right? He's on the edge, man. He's right on the fucking line, all right? And you've got Iceman, and all his crew. They're gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And they're saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways.

Duane: What about Kelly McGillis?

Sid: Kelly McGillis, she's heterosexuality. She's saying: no, no, no, no, no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They're saying no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is what's going on throughout that whole movie... He goes to her house, all right? It looks like they're going to have sex, you know, they're just kind of sitting back, he's takin' a shower and everything. They don't have sex. He gets on the motorcycle, drives away. She's like, "What the fuck, what the fuck is going on here?" Next scene, next scene you see her, she's in the elevator, she is dressed like a guy. She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'll do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it. Okay, now let me just ask you - I'm gonna digress for two seconds here. I met this girl Amy here, she's like floating around here and everything. Now, she just got divorced, right? All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way. They are this gay fighting fucking force, all right? And they're beating the Russians, the gays are beating the Russians. And it's over, and they fucking land, and Iceman's been trying to get Maverick the entire time, and finally, he's got him, all right? And what is the last fucking line that they have together? They're all hugging and kissing and happy with each other, and Ice comes up to Maverick, and he says, "Man, you can ride my tail, anytime!" And what does Maverick say? "You can ride mine!" Swordfight! Swordfight! Fuckin' A, man!

Now watch Top Gun and tell me it isn't even remotely gay ;) - Gunmaster45

A page for Top Gun?

but oh well. Posting the 2nd unit shots of a fake gatling gun (the guns on the jets don't look like that) is a bit of a stretch. There are no actual firearms in this film. Also there is no such jet as a MIG-28, the MIGS are numbered in odd numbers, MiG-27 Flanker, MiG-29 Fulcrum, MiG-31 Foxhound, etc., MoviePropMaster2008 06:45, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, I figured I'd make the link to the quote on the main page blue instead of red. The point is to show they didn't use the real guns of an actual jet for firing close ups. And like I said, jets are not my field of profession, so I wouldn't have known the MiGs are only in odd numbers. - Gunmaster45
For all Russian fighters odd numbers are used only. It still the Soviet tradition of times of 2nd World War. Not only for MiG's. For example wartime fighters: Yak-1, Yak-3, Yak-7, Yak-9; LaGG-3; La-5, La-7. If I am not mistaken, last time even number has been used before War for I-16 fighter. Accordingly even numbers are used for bombers and attack planes (Il-2, Il-4, Pe-2, Pe-8, Tu-2, etc). However there are exceptions. For example an attack plane of Su-25. Letters are the beginning of a surname of the designer(s) (YAKovlev, LAvotchkin, IL'yushin, TUpolev, PEtlyakov, SUkhoy, Mikoyan i (and) Gourevich, etc). Before 2WW there was other system: the first letter often designated plane type (as in the USA). For example: I - a fighter, SB - a bomber of the middle size, TB - a heavy bomber, DB - a bomber of long range of action, R - scout. Flexo 15:33, 22 November 2011 (CST)
You can argue that the Su-25 is a fighter. The F-111 and the F-117 are listed as fighters, although they are clearly ground attack aircraft, and all A-10s are in "Fighter" units. The biggest exception to the even-odd thing was the Tu-95. --Funkychinaman 15:45, 22 November 2011 (CST)
I do not think that Su-25 (as well as its successor Su-39) can be used as a fighter)) Simply someone in the Ministry of Defence wanted to joke :)) Flexo 16:17, 22 November 2011 (CST)
The F-111 was originally intended to be both a fighter and a bomber after Robert McNamara, in all his genius, instructed the Air Force and Navy to combine two programs into one. The former wanted a low-level tactical bomber (F-111A) and the latter a long range interceptor (F-111B) to replace the F-4. The F-111B failed miserably because it was too heavy and was cancelled, leading to the development of the F-14. Spartan198 (talk) 12:58, 18 June 2021 (EDT)

Info on the guns

It's true, F-14A Tomcats do carry M61 Vulcans on the underside of the nose. But in real life the F-5E/F Tigers (the MiG-28s) are armed with a pair of Pontiac M39A2 20mm cannons mounted on the nose. The M39A2 is not a Gatling weapon like the M61 is. It is a single barrel revolver cannon (which was used on US Aircraft from the 50's through the 80's).

I just figured I'd throw that in if you guys are curious. (I've seen this movie hundreds of times.) -500Magnum
