Because the buffer tube houses the buffer spring and buffer. When the rifle is fired the bolt carrier group moves backward into the buffer tube causing the buffer to compressing the spring. Which in turn recoils pushing the buffer and bolt carrier group forward and pushing a round from the magazine into the barrel. The way a .22lr bolt carrier group works is that the spring is part of the bolt carrier group so you don't need a buffer tube. - Ithaqua | ||
