Next page to be 'nuked' and more?

I've noticed a lot of Delete notices on pages such as Weaponology and Future Weapons as of late. Now I know there is a kind-of unspoken rule about 'documentary' pages not being allowed, but, I don't know, I'm wondering is this is getting a bit much.. At the very least, I'm worried that it's something that will inevitably concern several additional, and arguably very popular pages. One of which being this one - Since this is a sort of documentary show (As well as Lock 'n Load), will it get slated for deletion as well? I have to say I'm finding that possibility a bit disconcerting; Of course I like this page, but it's also a bit disconcerting on a general level, especially given there's no specific mention or even allusion of non-allowance of documentary pages on the RS&P page. Though that is probably just an oversight, it still should be addressed on the rules page itself, since the template regards the page being against the rules when in fact, the pages are conforming to the RS&P as it's presently stated. That aside, what will this mean in the future for this page and others like it? StanTheMan 18:25, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

While it has been decided that documentaries should not be allowed on IMFDB an exception was made for Mail Call because alot of work was put into it and it was created before the decision was made. Basically it has been grandfathered in. A notice about that should probably be put on the page. --AdAstra2009 18:38, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

That seems iffy to me. I don't think any pages should be slated for deletion until the Rules and Standards are changed to reflect this rule (which, by the way, we don't know actually exists- we only have your word that it does).

- AdAstra is an admin, and other admins and older members have stated here and there that documentaries aren't allowed (Again, it indeed isn't on the RS&P page, but that's an oversight and one that seems will be only temporary). Anyway, it is for good reason - I understand myself about the documentary thing, because it would encompass a vastly insane number of TV shows (As in, more than the site could probably even handle), but I was just a bit perturbed by how many notices I've seen on pages today. Of course part of me would request an exception for pages like 'Future Weapons' as they deal almost specifically on firearms themselves, but they themselves are massive pages with loads of weapons in various configurations and again, it may be a bit much. Plus such a exception would include shows like 'Tales Of The Gun', 'Guns of the World' and numerous other shows, and again we've kind arrived at the same problem (Plus many of those shows are VERY similar anyway). A grandfather clause I can understand though... However I'm sure Lock 'N Load was made quite recently, so will it get the ax? StanTheMan 18:43, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm aware AdAstra is an admin, but like you, it seems like a huge number of pages are slated to get the ax and I'd simply like to know the standards that are going to apply to the "grandfather clause," and how it will be fairly decided what pages get grandfathered in and which don't.

I'm sure the admins will collectively come to a consensus about certain pages and how this 'Documentary' rule will be stated/enforced and make public note of it in due course. It's really debatable on if this page and others like my Lock'n Load page should get axed on the basis that they are documentaries and since they are shows EXPLAINING the firearms in question, wouldnt need to actually list the guns shown Excalibur01 18:52, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm leaning towards Excalibur on this one. It seems like the admins should have figured this one out and made it clear cut and finalized before going around and tagging everything for deletion.

Well I already have two seasons and SNAFU done. It will take maybe a month or two, but the other seasons can also be completed. Plus, once I'm done, it will be litterally impossible to make a page with more guns. - Gunmaster45

This page is going to be ridiculously huge once every season is added. Should I divide the page into seasons, like have Seasons 1 & 2 on one page, 3 & 4 on the next, etc?

It's a history channel show about guns. What do you expect? I've seen most of the episodes but I didn't bother screen capping them because it's more like an info show about guns with R. Lee Ermey. Personally, I still don't understand why you guys are competing to have the longest gun pages on IMFDB. I just don't get why this excites people so much. -MT2008

Cause we can. It's something to encourage the making of pages. A sense of pride that you made a page, cap all the guns and it looks good in your eyes. And I'm seeing some repeats in the page. It is the easiest organization. Plus, if we see it again, like how we see Gunny shoot it in different episodes, we see it much better, it helps document it better (Think of it like each season is a new page, I figured this was the easiest way to document such a huge show). And it doesn't tell you every single gun on the show. 70% of the guns I capped from this show I had to know from my own knowledge. I don't mean to offend you Ex, but after so much hard work (and very little sleep), I just want my bragging rights. - Gunmaster45

Being someone without history channel, I like to think I'm showing all the people like me the guns of the show. Once I get the rest of the Seasons on here, I'm going to love doing the Knob Creek episode. I reccomend you all watch the video on youtube, it is incredible. And since Gunny doesn't tell us every gun we see, it will aid the viewer greatly. - Gunmaster45

Look, I don't really think repeating a gun is better orginazation, it's just repetition and counting a repeat on the overal of how many guns is kinda cheating. Yoy claim this page has 98 guns, but I've counted 5 of them repeat at least once, the M16A1 is up there 3 times. How hard is it to compact all the kinds of caps of the same gun under one section instead of 3? You are entitled to brag, and it's a very nice and big page you got here. I just think you over did it with the repeats. It's like if I started to cap repeats of guns from every season of The Unit and start a new section for that repeated gun, I'd be all day on my page doing that. I'd hate to say this, but you're quite an asshole. On here your talking down Marines because they have their fingers on the triggers. You have to remember, these are the guys who have pleged their lives towards the defending and sustainment of our lives. I guarantee you I had no intention of offending anyone. I can remove the comment on the M203 section about the guy with his finger on the trigger, but I didn't mean to say it to insult him or any Marines, I guess I was just noting a recruit slip up (not a big deal, it can go). I don't think it merits me being considered an asshole, but I'll change it for the sake of the guys with theirs lives on the line every day. Few Points

-The section with the M1903 Mk.I Springfield, where US troops are seen using them, I very much doubt are Mk.Is. Without seeing the cutout for the Pederson device it's impossible to be 100% sure, but Mk.Is were never actually issued during WW1. It and the Pederson device were intended to be used in the planned offensives of spring 1919, by the time the war ended they hadn't made nearly enough to issue.

- The Colt New Service seen in a 101st Airborne Reenactor's shoulder holster is a Smith & Wesson Victory. You can tell by the grips, the size of the gun and the style of the holster. Kinda farby for a 101st reenactor, the Victorys were mostly issued to Navy and USMC troops in the Pacific.

-I very much doubt those are British troops with the M1914 Hotchkiss, while the British Army did use a Hotchkiss gun, it was the M1909 Portative model. I suspect they're mostly likely Americans, or possibly Belgians.

-The Hawkins Plains Rifle is not a modern weapon, it was introduced in the 1850s by the Hawkins brothers as the first commercial rifle intended for hunting western game. It was extremely popular at the time. It's become such a mainstay of modern hunters for the same reason it was popular back then - it's light, handy and has a big enough calibre for western game, and also because muzzle loader hunting became popular about the same time Jeremiah Johnson came out, where Robert Redford prominently used a Hawkins.

M1-C or M1-D

I noticed that if you look at the barrel of M1-c it doesn't have the widened barrel that M1-c has. this leads me to belive that it is a M1-D not an M1-c. Drjuki 14:09, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

The "widened barrel" is a clip-on flash supressor, it comes off and was used with both models.
