If you try to think of this film as a sequel to Fist of Legend, you're going to drive yourself crazy. But if you classify Chen Zhen as a superhero, then it's a lot easier to accept. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:30, 28 December 2012 (EST)

There was so much political anti Japanese propaganda and chinese nationalism in this movie that I had to watch it in douses just like Flowers of War Excalibur01 (talk) 13:43, 28 December 2012 (EST)

Absolutely shameless, but expected from a modern Chinese film. But especially appalling considering Fist of Legend. I'm shocked they were able to get real Japanese actors to star in the film. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:47, 28 December 2012 (EST)
I'm not saying the Japanese people of the period had any excuse or really can be forgiven, but those people are either dead or very old. The hate needs to stop. It's worse because I am Chinese. I was a born and raised in America so my values are completely different from my family, but I feel this all the time and yet I films like this and it is just disheartening and I really don't recommend to watch the entire film either. The action scenes are cool but the rest about Japan's conquest of China is just bad. I'm not saying to ignore history but to study and learn from it. Watching an emotionally charged film like this is very negative Excalibur01 (talk) 14:24, 28 December 2012 (EST)
It just reflects the current state of Sino-Japanese relations and Chinese movie-making in general. The most shameless moment was when Chen Zhen lead the club in a singalong of "The Internationale," the Commmunist Party anthem. (Donnie Yen did his own piano playing though, which is impressive.) --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:45, 28 December 2012 (EST)
Which is kinda weird and maybe anchronistic because China at the time period was kinda on pause between the Communists and the Nationalists and the commies at the time weren't that powerful until after the war. It didn't make sense for them to sing that song. But hey, I loved Donnie Yen doing the piano Excalibur01 (talk) 15:58, 28 December 2012 (EST)
It's interesting that they never showed a single Chinese flag, despite all the nationalistic rabble-rousing. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:10, 28 December 2012 (EST)

I also think I know why a lot of the shoot out scenes took place in the rain, at least some of the up close ones were. I think it's to hide the bad muzzle flash CGI and to disguise the small sets they were using. Excalibur01 (talk) 15:59, 28 December 2012 (EST)

They certainly didn't try to disguise bad CGI muzzle flash in other parts of the film. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:10, 28 December 2012 (EST)

Unknowns

Unknown pistol

I'm not sure if this is an FN Model 1903 or just a rubber stunt M1911 that doesn't have a hammer. I do know they used rubber guns for filming kung-fu scenes, and both of the following caps are from very intense action sequences. --Funkychinaman (talk) 18:10, 27 December 2012 (EST)

Chen Zhen is about the toss this guy through a car window.

Unknown rifle

Bent bolt handle, which rules out the Arisakas and Mausers, but no external mag, so not the SMLE. The stock doesn't match the SMLE either, so I don't think it's an SMLE with its magazine removed. Any ideas?

Lee-Metford Mk I Cavalry Carbine? Greg-Z (talk) 05:11, 28 December 2012 (EST)
Or maybe an RIC Carbine? (I didn't really expect to see either in a Chinese film.) --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:15, 28 December 2012 (EST)
Based on the fact that there isn't wood over the top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight, I would guess it is a Lee Speed No. 3 "Trade Pattern" (I'm guessing No. 3 trade pattern by the look of the bolt although I can't see it that clearly to be 100%, and the fact that as it is in China I'm guessing this export variant is more likely). --commando552 (talk) 19:41, 28 December 2012 (EST)
Looks like it. There are some good pictures here. Thanks. --Funkychinaman (talk) 20:11, 28 December 2012 (EST)

Stick grenade

I initially thought Type 67 stick grenade, but they look a bit smaller and flimsier. Maybe just a prop?
