Suppressors

I wonder why the kidnappers don't use suppressors with their pistols. Very often they threaten someone inside the house. Firing a shot inside the house could be heard from outside and raise suspicion. I also think suppressors make guns look more assassin/covert ops-like to an average tv audience.
