Discussion

Weapon Models

Well, to kick off this discussion page, the game is pretty good, but the weapon models are absolutely HORRIBLE. --Ghostdigga 14:24, 10 September 2011 (CDT)

Yeah, when I saw the latest trailers I thought the weapon models looked awful too. XD But aleast it is a great game and weapon models are identifiable, the only bad points I give to this game is that the human models/animations are nowhere as good as L4D2's and of course, the awful weapon models, that's it. - Mr. Wolf 16:31, 10 September 2011 (CDT)
Are weapon models worse than L4D2? --Masterius 07:00, 12 September 2011 (CDT)
L4D2's weapon models were great, Dead Island's, um, not so much. - Mr. Wolf 16:08, 12 September 2011 (CDT)
I guess, Valve had more money to spend on weapons than Techland. Higher budget in other words. --Masterius 02:33, 13 September 2011 (CDT)
The environments in Dead Island still look gorgeous though. - Mr. Wolf 15:12, 13 September 2011 (CDT)
Valve just uses the firearms made in Counter Strike, since it's the same engine it's alot easier to import models from that game to L4D.--Mikethepanda 15:47, 16 July 2012 (CDT)
Errr, L4D2 only imports a few weapons from Counter-Strike for players in Germany and Australia to make up for the restrictions on gore. The rest of the game uses entirely unique models and animations. Chitoryu12 (talk) 07:16, 19 January 2013 (EST)

In-Game Images?

Is there any reason why actual in-game images of the firearms are still not up? I know someone out there has some capture device needed. --HashiriyaR32 22:12, 11 September 2011 (CDT)

I don't have the game... Yet. :) - Mr. Wolf 23:15, 11 September 2011 (CDT)

In-Game Weapons

Just saw a friend play the PC version earlier today (which looked a LOT better and smoother than I was expecting). Some info I have:

The Beretta is called "Semi-Auto Pistol" or just "Pistol" I forgot;
The AKS-74U is called "Auto Rifle";
The M4-type Carbine is called "Single Shot Rifle", and has an AR-18-type ejection port/charging handle.

--HashiriyaR32 13:36, 13 September 2011 (CDT)

Gun ID's

I didn't want to change the page until I had some other people backing my information up. The "Magnum" is a Taurus Raging Bull. The "Burst Rifle" is an M16A4 with a backwards mounted EOTech XPS sight that has an iron sight inside instead of the correct optics. The revolver is a Smith & Wesson, possibly a Model 19 loaded with .38 Special because of the low damage. Also, I think the short shotgun is a Benelli M3 Super 90 Shorty, and it looks nothing the 590 its listed as.--SmithandWesson36 20:14, 17 September 2011 (CDT)

H&K USP Removal?

Should the USP be removed from this page? i haven't found ANY USP's in the game, all I've found were Beretta's, Desert Eagle's, and revolvers, no USP's anywhere, so the image with the USP could've just been a beta image with the USP not being featured in the full game.Kornflakes89 02:21, 18 September 2011 (CDT)

Yeah, there's also beta images of the SPAS-12 too, I'll remove the USP. A funny thing, why do the beta weapons look better than the final game's weapons? - Mr. Wolf 13:54, 20 September 2011 (CDT)
Marketing ;) --Masterius 02:54, 21 September 2011 (CDT)
Probably the same reason they cut out the detailed gore, it became too hardware intensive and caused massive frame rate drops. I've seen this alot before in PC Mods, they sacrifice good looks for gameplay performance or for scenary and landscapes, particulary if the area is very large, much like what it is in Dead Island Draco122 14:59, 20 September 2011 (CDT)
Apparently when asked about the cutting of the real-time gore physics, they said that they dropped it because playtesters couldn't tell the difference between it and the pre-scripted "damage zones" currently used and it wasn't worth the resources. Chitoryu12 (talk) 07:17, 19 January 2013 (EST)
personally i wouldn't have minded if they kept the USP in the game, but i'm more of a Beretta fan anyway, but still, more firearm variety would've been niceKornflakes89 03:53, 13 October 2011 (CDT)

Weapon list

Just a formality but this is a list of weapons I've comprised from the game from research and such and from actual personal experience from gameplay.

Pistols

  • Pistol - Beretta 92FS - When modded, they appear with a different coloured compensator an example is a blue tipped compensator yields electric shock damage
  • Heavy Pistol - .357 Desert Eagle Mk. I
  • Revolver - Astra 960 .38 calibre, operated exclusively in single Action. The Character Purna (who own's a personal Revolver, fires hers in double action)
  • Magnum - Taurus Revolver with a Blued Finish and wooden grip. Like the Revolver, it fires in Single Action.

Shotgun

  • Shotgun - Possibly a combo gun, looks like a cross between a TOZ-194 and Remington 870 Police Magnum with an odd styled iron sight
  • Short Shotgun - Again a combo gun, has the foregrip of a Short Barrelled Remington 870 but the reciever and pistol grip looks similar to a Mossberg. It's front sight is blade sight.
  • Medium Speed Shotgun - SPAS-12, sometimes it's fitted with a large ghost ring sight when upgraded/modded.
  • Fast Shotgun - Benelli M3, operated in pump action only, has a similar styled ghost ring sight to the spas when upgraded/modded.

Auto-Rifle

  • AK-104 w/ wooden furniture, also features second synthetic polymer variant, sometimes fitted with a reflex type sight, possibly a kobra sight.

Rifle

  • Single Shot Rifle - Some type of AR-15 hybrid perhaps a semi-automatic Colt AR-15 Sporter SP1 with a flat top receiver and short barrel. Uses a 20 round magazine, modded versions occasionally feature a 30 round magazine.
  • Burst Rifle - In the Xbox360 version, they almost always appear as M16A2's sometimes with Reflex sights, but they fire in 3-4x round bursts, but tapping the trigger can enable them to fire single shots.

I'll get to adding Pictures when I can, it's hard to believe that despite the amount of media for this game, there's so limited pictures of weapons on the net. Draco122 12:50, 20 September 2011 (CDT)

I'm not 100% sure the revolver is an Astra, but it is a better guesss than the Python that was there before. BeardedHoplite 19:05, 16 October 2011 (CDT)

New Article.

I make paper from scratch because I have this game. Please identify models which specifies arms I have called the "Unknown". Structure of the Party will change with time, please do not interfere with the code and structure.

Please identify the revolver.

I cleaned up the page of grammar mistakes, removed the unnecessary titles and added a few extra images, also please sign your posts with this "~ ~ ~ ~" with no spaces Draco122 11:27, 18 March 2012 (CDT)

Anyone find it yet?

Apparently there is a rare pistol based on the PPK,

here's a quote from the site[1]:

"McCall's 9mm is a Legendary Weapon found in Dead Island. McCall's 9mm holds 15 rounds. This weapon, along with the other legendary weapons, is a rare drop that can be found on dead enemies or in metal chests. Legendary Weapons have a very low chance of spawning and do not appear in any specific area. For appearance the gun is silver with black grips and seems to be smaller than the regular pistol. A level 60 unmodified, fully-upgraded version of this weapon (wielded by Purna) can have the following stats (note that any two Legendary Weapons of the exact same type — such as two McCall's 9mm — can have slightly different stats from each other), Damage: 533+234 Accuracy: 86 Rate of fire: 150 Reload speed: 20"

looking at google images, there's no good pictures of it and it just looks like a stainless beretta, has anyone found one yet? --Mikethepanda 21:37, 17 July 2012 (CD)

McCall's 9mm does look like a Berreta Inox or a stainless steel one, nothing like a Walther PPK.

Definitive Edition

So I legitimately did not expect to see Dying Light weapons replacing the old models in the Definitive Edition. When I get the chance, I'm going to have to go through the rest of the game (as well as Dead Island: Riptide) to get screencaps of the other weapons. I did find out from other sources that the German 9mm Pistol from Dying Light now replaces the Desert Eagle. I don't know if any other weapons got replaced. So far, the Smith & Wesson Model 15 and the Browning M1919 are the only ones that got a tune up. -User:1morey May 20, 2021 10:51 AM (EST)
