The Sum Of All Fears (2002)
Alternative cover of the game.

The Sum Of All Fears is a first person tactical shooter based on the film of the same name. It was made in 2002 by Red Storm, creators of the very first Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games, hence this game borrows most if not all weapon models from those two games. But unlike in R6 or GR, most of the weapons have generic names instead of their real-life designations. In this game, the player takes control of various members of the FBI HRT (Hostage Rescue Team).

The following weapons appear in the video game The Sum Of All Fears:

Handguns

Beretta 92SB

The "9mm Pistol" in the game is probably based on a Beretta 92SB. It also could be the more popular Beretta 92FS, because the rounded trigger guard is just a question of detail. This "9mm Pistol" is the default sidearm in the game. Holds 15 rounds. A suppressed version ("9mm Pistol SD") can also be used for covert operations.

Beretta 93R

The Beretta 93R with wooden grips appears as "9mm Automatic" in the game but it fires correctly in semi-automatic and 3-round burst modes. Holds 15 bullets but is modeled with 20-round magazines. It is used as the secondary weapon if the PSG1, P90TR or M3 Super 90 is selected as a primary.

IMI/Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark I

The Desert Eagle Mark I appears as "0.357 Pistol" and holds 9 rounds. It is the most popular pistol among the terrorists.

Colt M1911

The M1911 retains its original designation in the game. Performs like the Desert Eagle Mark I, but holds only 7 bullets in the magazine.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A2

The H&K MP5A2 is one of the first weapons the player can use in the game. It has a "bonus" 3-round burst option, like the MP5A4, but is modeled with Navy-style selector. Referred to as "9mm SMG".

Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW

The H&K MP5K-PDW appears as "9mm Compact SMG" and can be used as a secondary weapon for the suppressed Accuracy International AWS sniper rifle. Appears without the buttstock and has a "bonus" 3-round burst option, which is not present on the selector.

Heckler & Koch MP5SD2

The H&K MP5SD2 appears as "9mm SMG SD" in the game. Features an additional 3-round burst mode, but the S-E-F trigger group indicates that this is the SD2. Used only by the HRT unit.

Heckler & Koch MP5SD5 - 9x19mm
The MP5SD2 in the hands of an FBI HRT officer. Like the other MP5's, it is modeled with a straight magazine.

IMI Uzi

The IMI Uzi appears as "9mm Auto Pistol" in the game. It is a primary weapon and correctly holds 32 rounds.

MAC-10

The MAC-10 is another usable weapon in the game. Called "0.45 Auto Pistol", the M10 offers good accuracy, stopping power and high rate of fire. Holds 30 rounds in the magazine.

A MAC-10 on the ground.

FN P90TR

The FN P90TR (Triple Rail) appears as "5.7mm SMG" in the game. Can fire in semi-auto, (incorrect) 3-round burst and full-auto modes. The 50-round magazine and the ability to penetrate body armor is a big advantage compared to the other submachine guns. Due to an animation error, the team members often "hold" this weapon as if it was a full-sized rifle.

Shotguns

Benelli M3 Super 90

The Benelli M3 Super 90 with pistol grip appears as "12ga Pump SG" in the game. Holds 7 shells and can be fired in semi-automatic mode only. When it runs empty, it can be fully reloaded in one second. Can be used to breach locked doors.

Benelli M3 Super 90 - 12 Gauge

Benelli M3 Super 90 Shorty

The Benelly M3 Super 90 Shorty is another well-used shotgun among the terrorists. Holds 6 shells and is available in semi-auto mode only. Called simply "Sawed-off SG". Can be used to breach locked doors.

Pancor Jackhammer

The Pancor Jackhammer is a usable shotgun in the game. Holds correctly 10 rounds and can fire in semi-auto or full-auto modes. In reality this shotgun never made it past the prototype stage, but in this game various terrorists, FBI and CIA operatives use it as their weapon of choice. Called "12ga Auto SG" in the game. Can be used to breach locked doors.

Knight's Armament Company Masterkey

Called "12ga UB Shotgun" in The Sum Of All Fears, the Knight's Armament Masterkey‎ can be mounted on an M4A1 and works as a secondary weapon in the game. Holds erroneously 6 shells instead of the real weapons 3+1 capacity and appears to shoot in semi-automatic mode. This attachment can be reloaded in about one seconds, as if it had a box magazine and not a tubular one. Can be used to breach locked doors.

A member of the HRT holds his M4A1 Carbine fitted with a Masterkey under-barrel shotgun. Note the dual-mags (two mags taped together jungle-style) on the M4A1.

Assault Rifles

Colt M4A1

The M4A1 appears in three different configurations: with a Trijicon reflex sight mounted on a flat-top upper receiver (called "M4"); with a vertical fore-grip, laser sight and Aimpoint CompM2 red dot sight (called "Spec Ops M4"); and with Masterkey below the barrel (called "M4/Shotgun"). Since the player can only customize his own weapons, team members often use an M4A1 even if the player chooses a submachine gun or sniper rifle. The "M4" and "M4/Shotgun" variants correctly fire in semi and full-auto modes, but the "Spec Ops M4" erroneously has an additional 3-round burst mode. (In real-life the Colt Model 978 a.k.a. "M4 Carbine Enhanced" has the additional burst setting.) A similar M4A1 with S-1-3-F trigger setting was also present in the game Ghost Recon.

A member of the HRT holds his M4A1 fitted with a reflex scope. This variant is called "M4", however it fires in full-auto like the M4A1. Also note the gas block, a crucial part often removed in FPS games nowadays.

Colt M16A4

The flat-top upper and the semi-auto/3-round burst fire mode suggests that the "M16" in the game is actually an M16A4. It is very accurate and deadly in the burst mode. Also appears with an M203 grenade launcher (called "M16/M203"), but using this configuration discards the secondary weapon. Like the M4A1 above, the model appears to be taken from Ghost Recon.

Heckler & Koch G3A3

The H&K G3A3 appears with its 20-round magazine and slimline handguard. Often used by hostile NPC's throughout the game. Called "7.62mm AR" and is usable only in the multiplayer and CO-OP parts of the game.

Heckler & Koch G36K

The Heckler & Koch G36K appears in the game as "5.56mm Carbine". It can erroneously fire in 3-round burst mode.
Note: Some special models can fire in 2-round burst mode, but no G36 rifle can fire in 3-round bursts. Those trigger groups are officially called "0-1-2" (safe, semi & 2-round burst) and "2-round burst" (safe, semi, 2-round burst & full-auto) by H&K.

An AK-74M on the ground.

Izhmash AKS-74U

Called "5.45mm SMG" in the game, the AKS-74U is the perfect weapon when high stopping power, superb accuracy and fast reloading speed is necessary. Just like the M4A1 and Heckler & Koch G36K, it can be fired in 3-round burst mode.

Izhmash AKS-74U - 5.45x39mm
Model of AKS-74U. As many other weapons, it is also modeled with a straight magazine.

Steyr AUG A1

The AUG A1 appears as "Bullpup AR" in The Sum Of All Fears. The "bonus" 3-round burst mode is also present on this weapon, too.

SVD

The SVD is the preferred sniper rifle of the hostile forces. It can only be used in multiplayer and CO-OP by the player.

A dead terrorist with the M24 Sniper Weapon System. Note the front sight on the rifle.

Machine Gun

PKM
