Nice, but where's the trigger?

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

The following guns were used in the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie:

NOTE: This is a work in progress that likely won't be complete until DVD/Blu-Ray release. Amongst those weapons still to do are the police sidearms (which ought to be Webley Metropolitan Police models), Le Strade's lever-action shotgun (IIRC) and Holmes' efforts at a suppressed large-caliber revolver (which also looked suspiciously Webley-like).

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!

Webley revolvers

Characters in the film employ Webley Bulldogs. Based upon their short 2.5" barrels and lack of a rammer/ejector, those wielded by Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) and American Ambassador Standish are most likely to be No.3 'R.I.C.' models in .442 calibre. These weapons fired a black powder cartridge and were gate loaders, unlike the later and more memorable "top break" Webleys.

We get a much clearer view of Holmes' (Robert Downey Jr.) revolver, which closely matches the late-model .360 (or .38) calibre No.5 'Express' with its longer 4" barrel, deep cylinder, and contoured frame at the lower front. It has a bud-shaped swivel-type rammer, squared-off butt with lanyard ring, fluted cylinder, and a polished (if not stainless) steel finish.

Unknown Shotgun

In the carriage in the beginning, a police constable is briefy seen loading a shotgun. Based on how he loads the shell into the shotgun, the shotgun might be a Winchester Model 1887. Which would be a damned unlikely weapons for the LMP, a 14-gauge Greener-Martini Police Gun or generic 12 gauge side-by-side doubles perhaps.

It is a Winchester 1887. Will cap it when I can Excalibur01

Unidentified pocket revolver

Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) uses a pocket revolver of relatively large caliber, with open top and spur trigger, as seen in the promotional still below. (Possibly, given her nationality, a Smith & Wesson?)

I'm going to go with this is a belgian folding trigger revolver or pinfire revolver. Though there is another folding grip and folding trigger vest type revolver out there it could be but the name is eluding me.~Pawnstar

Maybe a Smith & Wesson Model 1? - Kenny99 20:46, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Looks like an open top revolver to me though..arent model 1's only break action with a top strap?

C. Sharps Pepperbox

Professor Moriarty is seen deploying, from a concealed wrist-mounted rig, a (probably reproduction) C. Sharps patent Model 1A four-barreled pepperbox type pistol in .22 rimfire with engraved brass frame

Webley Mk 1

Inspector Lestrade can be seen chambering a possible Webley Mk 1 revolver in the beginning.

Howdah Pistol

The Home Secretary, Lord Coward has a large-caliber (most likely .577) centerfire Howdah Pistol by one of the usual makers (e.g. famed shotgun makers Purdey).

Police Revolvers

The actual police sidearms of 1891 were the older Webley M.P. Model in .450 Adams at least partially supplemented by the Army issue Webley Mark I (in .442 Enfield).
