Saw IV is a 2007 American horror film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman from a screenplay by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. It is the fourth installment in the Saw franchise. The film stars Tobin Bell, Scott Patterson, Costas Mandylor, Lyriq Bent, and Louis Ferreira and was released in the United States on October 26, 2007 by Lionsgate. The film continues the story of the Jigsaw Killer's obsession with teaching people the value of their lives and occurs roughly at the same time as the previous installment. Despite Jigsaw's death, the film focuses on his ability to manipulate people into continuing his work. The story follows Officer Daniel Rigg being put through a series of tests in order to try to let go of his obsession with saving everyone, while at the same time attempting to save his partner. A sequel, titled Saw V, was released in 2008.

Note: This is the only film in the franchise where firearms are not used in any trap directly.

Handguns

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta 92FS pistols are seen in the holsters of Daniel Rigg (Lyriq Bent) and another SWAT officer, who arrive at the place of Kerry's execution. In the evening at his home, waking up after being attacked by a Pig Mask Man, Rigg takes his service pistol out from the nightstand and slowly follows into the living room, where he meets Brenda (Sarain Boylan) and and receives instructions for his first test, keeping the pistol at the ready. Having received the key to 261st room in Alexander Motel, he goes there with the Beretta. There, he checks the room and receives instructions for the next test, constantly holding and using a pistol. He literally takes Ivan Landsness (Marty Adams) hostage, threatening him with a gun, and forces him to participate in the test. Thereafter, the pistol is briefly seen in Rigg's hands in the abandoned elementary school and Gideon meatpacking plant when he passes his third and final test, respectively. Hearing Eric speak , he bursts into the room, ignoring Art's screams not to open the door and shoots at Art Blank twice, mistaking him for Jigsaw's accomplice. In parallel with this, Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) again walks through the building with a Beretta 92FS, partially repeating footage from the previous film.

Beretta 92FS - 9x19mm Parabellum

The closest SWAT officer has a Beretta in a belt holster in the beginning of the movie.

The pistol is briefly seen in Rigg's holster when he finds Kerry's dead body.

Realizing that he will take part in Jigsaw's games, Rigg (Lyriq Bent) retrieves a Beretta 92FS from his nightstand.

...and checks the magazine. Unlike Eric, the kidnapper left the cartridges in the mag.

He raises the pistol in excitement. At this point, we can confidently say that this is non gun prop.

Realizing that he has failed all the tests and is guilty of the death of his best friend, Rigg drops the gun to the floor.

Glock 17

Several SWAT officers carry a holstered Glock 17s, while searching for Kerry's body at the beginning of the film and when they come to Rigg's house and abandoned elementary school. Detective Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) also carries a holstered gun during interrogation of Jill Tuck (Betsy Russell), which Rigg watches in a police station. Officer Bousman (Bill Vibert) who came to report to the detective Fisk (Mike Realba) about the shooting at Rigg's house carries a Glock 17 in a holster on his belt. Special Agent Peter Strahm (Scott Patterson) and Special Agent Lindsey Perez (Athena Karkanis) are armed with a Glock 17 as their sidearm. After the arrest of Jill Tuck, Strahm decides to conduct an interrogation. He unloads the pistol and hands over the magazine to Perez in accordance with safety regulations. During interrogation, the pistol is constantly seen in his holster. When a SWAT team breaks into Art Blank's old apartment, Glock 17 is seen in a Lamanna's (Simon Reynolds) holster and briefly in Strahm's hands. After making sure there is no threat, Peter holsters the pistol. Later Strahm and Perez use it when the police arrive at an elementary school after a fire alarm. They walk along a corridor, trying to find Art Blank and hold Glocks untill Perez is wounded by shrapnel from the trap hidden in Billy the Puppet. When Strahm finds the location of Jigsaw's hideout, he goes there. Upon arrival, he takes the Glock out of his holster and accidentally shoots at Jeff (Angus Macfadyen).

Disenchanted with Kerry's death, Rigg watches the Jill Tuck's interrogation tape, trying to find new leads on the Jigsaw case.

Enraged that Lindsey nearly died, Strahm throws folders from a desk at the police station. His Glock 17 is still holstered at this point.

In an inadequate state, Strahm briefly wants to commit suicide during Jill's second interrogation...

...he even points a gun at Jill.

After learning the location of the game, Strahm travels to Gideon meatpacking plant (where Jigsaw's hideout is located) alone. His Glock is seen in a holster.

The agent Strahm slowly explores the corridors of the building with a Glock 17 in his hand near the finale.

When someone closes the door and turns off the light, Strahm is left alone in the dark with four corpses.

Smith & Wesson 5946

After Strahm hears a series of gunshots, he enters the operating room, where he meets Jeff (Angus Macfadyen). He misunderstands the situation and begins to threaten the agent, pointing Amanda's Smith & Wesson 5946 at him. As a result, Strahm immediately shoots several times, killing him.

Smith & Wesson Model 629 Classic

Art Blank (Justin Louis) receives a Smith & Wesson Model 629 revolver with a full lug under the barrel and 5" barrel amongst the other stuff provided for him to complete his game. He enters the test room in Gideon Meatpacking Plant, holding it in his hands. After that, he puts the gun on the table and watches Rigg's tests through the monitors. When Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) accidentally slides off the ice block, Art helps him stand back and briefly points the revolver at Hoffman, showing his face to the viewer for the first time. As Rigg's ordeal draws to a close, Art hands over an empty pistol and a single bullet to Eric. The hot-tempered detective loads it and when Rigg (Lyriq Bent) enters the room, Matthews accidentally shoots him.

Smith & Wesson Model 629 Classic with 5" barrel - .44 Magnum

Jigsaw's unidentified accomplice puts down a bag of props, holding a revolver in his hand.

Blank is aiming at Hoffman, when Eric falls off the block of ice.

Art points the Smith & Wesson at Hoffman to try to calm Det. Matthews down. Note that revolver has no front sight.

Detective Hoffman recognizes Art Blanc, whom he had previously known. Here we get a good look at the bore which appears too big to be a S&W 686 in .357 Magnum.

Blank explains to Eric what he has to do and shows him the revolver...

...and turns it over to put it in his hand.

Unable to refuse, the detective takes the gun.

However, by mistake in the next shot, the gun is in a different position.

Also, Art Blank gives Eric the only bullet he has.

Eric holds the Smith & Wesson Model 629 and is ready to shoot when time runs out.

He ends up shoots the glass door, wounding Rigg behind it.

After the ice block mechanism is activated, Eric drops the gun to the floor.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

The Heckler & Koch MP5A3 is seen in the hands of a few SWAT team members as they search for Kerry, and it can also be seen hanging from Rigg's (Lyriq Bent) sling with the stock collapsed. Rigg’s close friend and SWAT officer Lamanna (Simon Reynolds) also uses an MP5A3 as a service weapon throughout the film. When the same SWAT team, led by Lamanna, comes first to Rigg’s house, then to Alexander Motel and then to the abandoned elementary school, the officers continue to use Heckler & Koch MP5A3s.

Assault Rifles

M4A1

The M4A1 carbines with railed handguards, flashlights, vertical grips and LAMs are seen in the hands of at least a couple SWAT team members when they search for Detective Kerry's body near the beginning. After finding Ivan's disfigured body in Alexander Motel, Lamanna discovers that the main suspect, Art Blank, had an apartment two blocks from the motel and SWAT team, along with agents, go there. Later, when a fire alarm goes off in the abandoned elementary school and Lamanna's team arrives at the building, at least one of the officers is seen with an M4A1.

M4A1 Carbine - 5.56x45mm NATO

At the very beginning of the film, an officer enters the building where Kerry was executed in the previous film.

Other

Billy the Puppet Gun

The result of the test for Special Agent Perez and Special Agent Strahm is a room, in the center of which is a Billy the Puppet sitting on a chair in a circle of candles with a tape recorder hanging from his neck. While playing the tape, the agents ignore ticking sounds. At the end, Perez leans towards the puppet and at this moment the gun, hidden in Billy's face, is activated and wounds Perez with shrapnel.

Shotgun Collar

Since the action of the fourth film happens in parallel with the third film, Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) and Lynn (Bahar Soomekh) return in the film. When Agent Strahm arrives at Gideon meatpacking plant to arrest Jigsaw, the scene in which Amanda (Shawnee Smith) shoots Lynn is repeated. At this moment, the shotgun collar is visible on Lynn's neck.

The shotgun collar can briefly be seen on Lynn's neck.

Spike Crossbow

The third test in Rigg's game was a spike trap. Two victims, Morgan (Janet Land) and Rex (Ron Lea), had leather straps that were chained to a metal pillar back to back. They were pierced by eight long, thin metal spikes. For this, a special custom crossbow was installed in the same room. When the police arrive at the elementary school where the game took place, one of the forensic investigators accidentally activated the device used to pierce Morgan and Rex, which subsequently shoots a police photographer (Joanne Boland).

The crossbow first appears on a small cart when Rex and Morgan woke up.

The forensic investigator takes fingerprints from the crossbow.
