The MCX Spear is variant unveiled in 2019 and designed for the United States Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon program. It is based on the MCX-MR, SIG-Sauer's previous unsuccessful submission for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System program. The commercial version of the MCX Spear became available in early 2022.

The MCX-SPEAR is a variant unveiled in 2019 and designed for the United States Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon program. It is based on the MCX-MR, SIG-Sauer's previous unsuccessful submission for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System program. In April 2022, the MCX-SPEAR was announced as the winner of the NGSW program, with its designation being the "XM5". However the designation was changed in 2023 to "XM7" because of copyright infringement.

The commercial version of the MCX-SPEAR became available in a limited run in January 2022, and is scheduled to go into full production in 2023.

A carbine version with an 8" barrel and a receiver nearly identical to the MCX-MR was previously unveiled in late 2018. Further info about it was disclosed in late 2021, when its name was revealed as the MCX Raptor.

SIG-Sauer MCX-SPEAR

SIG-Sauer MCX-SPEAR with 13" barrel and SLX68-MG-QD suppressor - 6.8x51mm FURY
