Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the 2011 prequel "reboot" of the Planet of the Apes film series. The film stars James Franco as a scientist in search of a cure for Alzheimer's and finds that one of his apes that has been given an experimental drug appears to have developed intelligent reasoning. A sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, was released in July of 2014.
