Resident Evil: Apocalypse is the second installment in the Resident Evil film series. The 2004 survival horror sequel once again stars Milla Jovovich as Alice, who struggles to find out what the Umbrella corporation has done to her as she leads survivors in an escape from a Raccoon City infested with the dead. Directed by Alexander Witt, the film is directly inspired by Resident Evil 3: Nemesis with several characters from the video game appearing including Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), Nicholai Ginovaeff (Zack Ward), and Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr).

Handguns

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta 92FS is seen used several times during the film, by numerous characters, including S.T.A.R.S. and Umbrella personnel (in the original Resident Evil game, S.T.A.R.S. members all carried Beretta 92s). Peyton Wells (Razaaq Adoti), Nicholai Ginovaeff (Zack Ward) and Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) all use a 92FS. Alice (Milla Jovovich) also uses one near the end of the film. Cain (Thomas Kretschmann) also uses one at the end of the movie.

Smith & Wesson 5946

Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) uses the Smith & Wesson 5946 as her sidearm throughout the film, instead of her Beretta 92FS "Samurai Edge" from the Resident Evil video games. She appears to carry two 5946s - One in a thigh holster and one in a shoulder holster. She later hands one to Terri Morales (Sandrine Holt) when they enter the school.

Smith and Wesson 629 Classic

When the survivors enter a church to take refuge from the zombies, they find Mackenzie (Geoffrey Pounsett) armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 629 Classic hiding there. Jill (Sienna Guillory) uses his gun to shoot at the same licker until it's empty, and then discards it. In a continuity error, this gun becomes a Smith & Wesson Model 13 in several instances. The 629 Classic in the movie is a nod to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis where it functions as Jill's magnum revolver.

Para-Ordnance P14 Limited

Alice (Milla Jovovich) carries twin Para-Ordnance P14 pistols as her sidearms. After she crashes through a church window, Alice uses her P-14s to blow up the motorcycle with a licker on it. According to the armorer, they shaved the beaver-tails and cleared up the back edges of her handguns. Later in the movie Cain confiscates her P-14s, then uses one against an approaching zombie horde. After some pointless kills he tries to commit suicide, but the gun clicks on an empty chamber. Like in true Hollywood fashion the slide stays in battery instead of locking back when he runs out of ammo.

Glock 17

The Glock 17 is briefly seen on the ground in the aftermath of the R.P.D. and S.T.A.R.S. last stand against the zombie horde.

Desert Eagle Mark XIX

Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) carries two black oxide finished Desert Eagle Mark XIXs in .44 Magnum caliber.

Desert Eagle Mark XIX (Gold Finish)

L.J. (Mike Epps) carries twin .44 Magnum Gold-plated Desert Eagle Mark XIX handguns customized with orange-colored Millett front sights. The Nemesis digital vision specifies that his Desert Eagles are older Mark VII models, however the fluted barrel, scope rails, and taller cocking serrations on the slide are all clearly visible in numerous shots. The .44 Magnum chambering is correct, however, given the fluted barrel (.50AE Mark XIXs do not have fluted barrels). This unusual caliber (in American movies) was probably chosen because the film was filmed in Canada.

The Nemesis digital vision specifies that his Desert Eagles are (incorrectly) Mark VII models, but correctly chambered in .44 Magnum. This is still an improvement, since the previous film mistook an SMG for an assault rifle.

Shotguns

High Standard K-1200 Riot Shotgun

Alice (Milla Jovovich) grabs a High Standard K-1200 Riot Deluxe Shotgun with rifle sights, out of a police car in the abandoned streets in a flashback to the first film. She is later seen with the shotgun as she walks to a surplus store.

Mossberg 590 "Compact Cruiser"

Alice (Milla Jovovich) carries and uses a Mossberg 590 "Compact Cruiser" throughout the film. She is seen wielding the shotgun one-handed and most notably uses this weapon to blow away two lickers in the church.

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

The Heckler & Koch MP5A3 is seen in hands of several S.T.A.R.S. members. In the games the MP5A3 was used by the R.P.D. SWAT, so its appearance in the movie is game-accurate.

In addition to carrying two P14.45s, Alice also carries two Heckler & Koch MP5Ks which had the upper receivers finished in silver by the armorer and fitted with modified Heckler & Koch SP89 grips (likely due to the lack of two handed firing). These are carried by Alice in a dual shoulder rig. She most notably uses these weapons to shoot at a licker in the church, and trap it under a crucifix.

Armorer Charles Taylor shows Alice customized MP5K. The customization is similar to Dennis Hopper's mocked up SP89 in Speed, however this is not the same weapon.

Heckler & Koch UMP-9

Peyton Wells (Razaaq Adoti) carries a Heckler & Koch UMP-9 with SureFire light in the gate scene. For some reason he abandons the weapon while being medicated by Jill. A Heckler & Koch UMP-9 is briefly seen carried by an Umbrella soldier that Alice takes out.

Assault Rifles

SIG SG 552

A commonly used rifle in the movie is the SIG SG 552, most of the Umbrella "closed helmets" use them, as well as most of the S.T.A.R.S. officers seen in the film.

When Alice runs down the side of the town hall tower, she knocks down a Umbrella guard who appears to be armed with a SIG SG 552 fitted with a weaponlight.

Colt M4A1

Another commonly used rifle is the Colt M4A1, used primarily by the S.T.A.R.S. There were several officers using this weapon during the shootout with the approaching zombies early on in the film. When L.J. meets the S.T.A.R.S., he is greeted with a few M4A1s to the face.

IMI Tavor TAR-21

Nicholai Ginovaeff (Zack Ward) is armed with an IMI Tavor CTAR-21 which is the compact version of the TAR-21 which Nicholai wields with an ITL MARS red dot sight, a flashlight and a laser sight. Yuri Loginova (Stefan Hayes) (and later Carlos Olivera) also uses a Tavor TAR-21 with an ELCAN scope, normally mounted on Canadian Military C7s but since filming for this movie was done in Canada, they would be available.

Yuri Loginov (Stefan Hayes) fires his IMI Tavor TAR-21. While his name reads "Loginov" on the back of his vest, his name in the end credits is Loginova, the feminine version of the family name.

Micro Galil

Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) carries a Micro Galil as his primary weapon in the movie, instead of his M4A1 from Resident Evil 3. Olivera uses his Galil with C-More red dot sight, a lasersight, a flashlight and a vertical foregrip. The handguard is an Israeli made polymer version with Picatinny rail on the bottom. The gas tube was replaced with a modular gas tube with rail built into the top. Apparently, some S.T.A.R.S. officers and several Umbrella soldiers with the helmets on had this weapon as well.

IMI Micro Galil - 5.56x45mm

Accuracy International Arctic Warfare

A S.T.A.R.S. sniper (Frank Chiesurin) uses an Accuracy International Arctic Warfare while behind a sign on the roof of a theater. He uses it to snipe zombies across the street, as well as save L.J. from attack.

Barrett M82A1

An Umbrella sniper (cameo role of director Alexander Witt) on top of Raccoon City's city hall (Actually Toronto City Hall) uses a Barrett M82A1. He was about to use it to shoot Carlos when Alice popped up and surprised the man. Apparently the scope of the gun, in the movie, had some sort of advanced computer targeting system that compensates for wind direction, wind speed, and target distance.

M60

Nemesis' Minigun

A customized Minigun is one of the two weapons The Nemesis (Matthew G. Taylor) uses. This weapon is fitted with shortened barrels, individual flash hiders for each of the barrels, a green laser sight, custom aluminum barrel shroud and furniture featuring a fictitious ammo counter on the side. This is the first movie Minigun designed to be fired one handed. Unlike previous films featuring these weapons, the ammunition is fed from the weapon offscreen rather than carried on the actor's back. In wide shots where Nemesis doesn't fire the weapon, the ammo chute leads into the back of his trench coat. In the film's context, the weapon supposedly has 5000 rounds loaded, though the two ammo cans left in the shipping container imply that he has no more than 400 rounds minus the three or four linked rounds he left behind. In reality the gun had about 200 rounds loaded in the ammo chute, and the armorers attached a larger ammo can to the chute for scenes where they needed more sustained fire. In wide shots where Nemesis doesn't fire the weapon, the end of the chute is secured inside the actor's trench coat. In a continuity error, when he sets down his weapons for the final hand-to-hand fight with Alice, the Minigun doesn't have a chute installed at all, however, it does moments later when he uses it to destroy the Umbrella security detail. In addition to the weapon's fake ammo counter, the Nemesis also has a HUD that shows his health and weapon status for both the Minigun and the rocket launcher much like in a first person shooter. Surprisingly, the ammo displayed on the weapon's ammo counter is not only consistent with what is displayed in Nemesis' POV HUD shots, but the numbers also imply a consistent on screen fire rate of about 4200 RPM. In reality, the weapon was firing at a much slower rate, probably no more than the 1250 RPM of the Predator/T2 gun. The film's armorer, (Al Vrkljan), has commented the following on our forum -

"The M134 mini was really simple, we just made our own barrels at 12 inches and also made a shorter barrel clamp. Then the rest was furniture machined from aluminum to make it lighter, 60-80 pounds total, then we attached a feed chute that held 200 rounds in the chute and there you have it. It was fired by one arm, so take that Arnie.

For extended firing, the ammo can was below camera frame, the longest burst was when he was taking out the STARS unit, did about 15 seconds straight and that was a very long 15 seconds, funny watching the brass and link build up around his ankles."

First time with the modified Minigun for Actor (Matthew G. Taylor). He did not expect a very powerful recoil, and had a difficult time remaining upright.

Launchers

Nemesis' "U-RL-012" Rocket Launcher

Alongside his Minigun, Nemesis is armed with his signature Rocket Launcher from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The shipping crate for this weapon is labeled U-RL-012, no doubt a model number standing for "Umbrella Rocket Launcher." According to Nemesis' HUD the weapon is loaded with six rockets, which is precisely how many he fires in the film before being killed (it is also the number of rockets Nemesis has in the games whenever he appears). Like in RE3, the movie launcher bears resemblance to the FIM-92 Stinger.

The launcher (like many movie rocket or missile launchers in movies) is a custom prop, designed and built from scratch. Since no rocket launcher in Hollywood actually fires real deadly rockets, the launcher has to only hold the 'flash' launch mechanism that the special effects people/pyrotechnicians require for the shot.

M203 Grenade Launcher

What looks like an M203 grenade launcher is seen on one of the M16A2s in the Umbrella helicopter.

Other

Surplus Store Guns

When Alice breaks into a surplus store, she is seen grabbing her pistol from underneath a glass counter, which also displays several other pistols and revolvers.

Helicopter Machine Guns

Umbrella helicopters are seen opening fire on Alice with their machine guns. These are most likely non-firing props with the muzzle flashes added in post-production. This particular sequence was inspired by the opening cutscene from Resident Evil: Code Veronica, where Claire Redfield runs away from an Umbrella attack helicopter.

Flamethrower

When Nemesis fires the "U-RL-012" Rocket Launcher to blow-up the roof, the flamethrowers were used by cinematographers to imitate the large flame of "explosion".
