Background

Introduced in 1948, the Remington Model 721 was designed to replace the Remington Model 30 sporting rifle. The Model 721 was a Mauser based design and was a long action. Remington also manufactured the Model 722 in a short action for the .308 Winchester, .222 Remington, .224 Remington, .257 Roberts and .300 Savage cartridges. Both models were discontinued in 1962 due to the introduction of the Remington Model 700. 118,000 units (Model 721 & Model 722) were manufactured between 1948-1962. Many are still in use today.
