Background

Police Story was an anthology series that ran on NBC network from 1973-1977. It was created by Joseph Wambaugh ,the successful novelist and longtime L.A.P.D. police officer (1960-1974), and is notable for being the first series to depict police officers as humans instead of machines - warts and all. It is considered to be the archetype for later dramatic police series such as Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, and Homicide: Life On The street.
