It is a relatively simple submachine gun, mostly made from stamped steel with parts spot-welded together. The weapon was produced for a short time in Autumn 1941 in several factories in Tula and used only by the volunteers of the Tula Workers Regiment, who were fighting against the ''Wehrmacht'' troops on the outskirts of Tula. About 1,500 SMGs were produced.
