The main gun Dally Winston ([[Matt Dillon]]) uses throughout the film is a [[Star Model BM]] (which he  claims he keeps unloaded).  Dally first takes out of his convertible at the Dairy Queen, which he quickly hides in the glove compartment. After Johnny dies, Dally pulls it out on a doctor, dry firing it at him. He then uses it to rob a gas station (grocery store in the novel). The trigger and frame are clearly that of a Star Model BM and not a Smith & Wesson Model 39. It is last seen when he makes his stand against the police.
