The Outsiders (1983)

The Outsiders is a 1983 drama based on the novel by S.E. Hinton that tells the story of young boys who were social outcasts growing up in 1950's Oklahoma. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the film featured numerous actors who later go onto bigger fame including Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, Diane Lane, and Tom Cruise. Released in severely edited form in 1983, the film was later released in 2005 with 22 minutes restored on DVD under the title The Outsiders: The Complete Novel.

The following weapons were used in the film The Outsiders:

Star Model PD

Dally Winston (Matt Dillon) uses a Star Model PD throughout the film (which he claims he keeps unloaded). Dally first takes out of his convertible at the Dairy Queen, which he quickly hides in the glove compartment. After Johnny dies, Dally pulls it out on a doctor, dry firing it at him. He then uses it to rob a gas station (grocery store in the novel). The trigger and frame are clearly that of a Star Model BM. It is last seen when he makes his stand against the police. This is anachronism due to the movie's setting of 1965 and the introduction of the PD in 1975. It is most likely standing in for the Colt Commander.

Dally dry fires his Star at the cops.

Smith & Wesson Model 10

Along with $50, Dally Winston (Matt Dillon) gives Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny Cade (Ralph Macchio) a Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver. Although they never fire it, Johnny is seen handling it in the train car.
