The story focuses on Stepa Kiliánová (Iva Janzurová), the daughter of a wealthy master mason and farmer's wife and a from vejrychovského estate, who lives in a small town at early 20th century. Her fate was connected with her dreams man, cousin Pavel Malina (Petr Cepek), lieutenant of the Austro-Hungarian army, which contracted syphilis during the service and it will lead to his paralysis. The film follows the transformation of urban ladies in hard-working peasant woman, who must also care for a dying husband.
