Nineteen Eighty Four (1984)

The firearms used in the 1984 film Nineteen Eighty Four were of World War II vintage in keeping with George Orwell's original novel by the film makers. In Orwell's novel, the weapons technology used by the militaries of Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia were the same weapons the Allied and the Axis forces used during World War II in order to continue the "Perpetual War" between the three global powers by keeping people busy, wasting resources for the wars, and keeping old and outdated machines and technology in service. From what has been seen in the 1984 film adaption of Nineteen Eighty Four, it appears that Oceania exclusively uses British WWII weapons (due to the British controlling Oceania) while Eurasia uses Soviet WWII weapons (due to the Russians controlling Eurasia).

The following firearms were used in the film Nineteen Eighty Four:

Pistols

Browning Hi-Power

Seen in the hands of an Oceanian soldier in which he used the pistol to execute Eurasian POWs in Victory Square.

Classic Commercial Browning Hi Power (Belgian Mfg) - 9mm

Rifles

Lee-Enfield No.V Jungle Carbine

Seen in the hands of Oceanian soldiers. One scene shows a unit of Oceanian soldiers marching into battle with No.5 Jungle Carbines slung over their left shoulders.

Lee-Enfield No.5 Jungle Carbine - .303. This is not a chopped down No. 4 conversion (like many jungle carbines are) but an original No.5

Mosin-Nagant 91/30

Seen in the hands of a Eurasian soldier in the Two Minutes Hate propaganda film at the beginning of 1984. The footage of the Eurasian soldier with the Mosin-Nagant was actually footage of a Red Army soldier using his Mosin-Nagant rifle on the Eastern Front during World War II.

Submachine Guns

Seen in the hands of Eurasian soldiers in the Two Minutes Hate propaganda film. The PPSh-41s were seen with 71-round drum magazines.

Soviet PPSh-41 Submachine Gun - 7.62x25mm Tokarev

Lanchester Mk.I submachine gun

Lanchester Mk.I submachine guns are seen in the hands of an Oceanian soldier in shooting a number of Eurasian POWs in Victory Square.
