The firearms used in the 1984 film Nineteen Eighty Four were of World War II vintage in keeping with George Orwell's original novel by the film makers. In Orwell's novel, the weapons technology used by the militaries of Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia were the same weapons the Allied and the Axis forces used during World War II in order to continue the "Perpetual War" between the three global powers by keeping people busy, wasting resources for the wars, and keeping old and outdated machines and technology in service. From what has been seen in the 1984 film adaption of Nineteen Eighty Four, it appears that Oceania exclusively uses British WWII weapons (due to the British controlling Oceania) while Eurasia uses Soviet WWII weapons (due to the Russians controlling Eurasia). Seen in the hands of a Eurasian soldier in the Two Minutes Hate propaganda film at the beginning of 1984. The footage of the Eurasian soldier with the Mosin-Nagant was actually footage of a Red Army soldier using his Mosin-Nagant rifle on the Eastern Front during World War II.
