The Magnificent Seven is the classic 1960 Western directed by John Sturges that was in turn based upon Akira Kurosawa's classic samurai film Seven Samurai. The film follows seven gunfighters hired by citizens of a Mexican town for protection from a group of bandits who have been terrorizing them. Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn would later reunite for director Sturges in 1963's The Great Escape. The Magnificent Seven would spawn three sequels, a 1998 CBS television series as well as a feature film remake directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt released in September of 2016.
