Pistols

Colt Mk IV Series 70

The Colt Mk IV Series 70 appears to be the M1911 variant of the season. The Colt Mk IV used in this season is a live gun and it is shot for real multiple times during the season.

In "The Golden Triangle" (S1E02), a goon in a junkyard carries an Colt Mk IV Series 70 with a supressor during the episode's "opening gambit". Later, when the real episode starts in Burma, it is used by the villianous Truang (Benjamin Lum), Gen. Narai's right hand man. It's mostly seen in his holster, but he draws it out when MacGyver starts causing commotion in the camp. He loses it when MacGyver rams a truck to a shed he is hiding in. When Truang's envoy returns to the village, he has aquired a new one. When MacGyver stops the envoy to taunt them, Truang pulls his Colt and shoots at MacGyver. The Colt Truang fires a real one, as it ejects casings and gunsmoke. Truang has the Colt Mk IV out for rest of the guerilla combat scene, until he is disarmed by Ming's (James Saito) bamboo pole kung fu.

In "The Gauntlet" (S1E04), during the opening gambit a high-ranking enemy officer wields a M1911 with chrome ejection port. The M1911 seems to alter between a real one and a non-firing prop, between one with a chrome-colored ejection port and one with a black one. In the main part of the episode, General Vasquez (Gregory Sierra) carries one. It's mostly kept in a holster, but when MacGyver sets off distraction near a church, he draws his Colt Mk IV out of his holster. Also one of Gen. Vasquez's men are seen with a Colt Mk IV.

In "The Heist" (S1E05), a Colt Mk IV appears appears in hands of Jack Catlin (Vernon Wells) at the very beginning, when he rubs off Daniel Sims (Larry D. Mann) with one. The Colt Mk IV is a real gun and actor Vernon Wells is made to shoot it for real. He has trouble keeping face while shooting it and goes through many goofy expressions during the short scene where he fires the gun. One appears in holster of one of the soldiers at airport at the beginning and the end of the episode.

In "Last Stand" (S1E07), Colt Mk IV first appears tucked in Elias' (Anthony Pena) pants. After MacGyver starts causing havoc with MacGyver'ed fertilizer bombs, Elias gets out the Colt Mk IV and goes to investigate. After MacGyver and the hostages try to flee with a water truck, Elias and the boss Terry Andrews (Michael McGuire) board the car. With Elias on the wheel, Terry takes the Colt Mk IV and starts shooting at the escapees. Terry Andrews carries the Colt Mk IV for the rest of the episode, while Elias gets a H&K P9S.

In "Target MacGyver" (S1E10), one of Axminster's goons appears briefly to have the Colt Mk IV.

In "Nightmares" (S1E11), it's carried by goon named Polk (Tommy Lamey). His M1911 has chrome ejection port, meaning this is the Colt Mk IV that pops up a lot in this season. Also the Colt Mk IV emblem is visible in one scene.

In "Flame's End" (S1E13), it's carried by Police Chief Ed Train (Conlan Carter), who turns out to be one of the two people involved in the uranium theft. He reveals himself with Colt Mk IV in hand and tries to kill Mac, Amy and a security guard to erase witnesses. However, Tim Wexler (Robert Englund) leaps in and is shot in the stomach. Train starts to fire towards Mac and Amy, ending up destroying plant controls and injuring the security guard. Again, the gun is shown recoiling. Also, as with Vernon Wells in Episode 5, the actor here seems nervous handling the gun. Train fires 'till he runs out of ammo and flees after that.

In "The Enemy Within " (S1E15), it is used by the brainwashed Craig Bannister (Michael Goodwin) in the episode finale.

In "The Escape" (S1E20), when MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) and "Brian Ashford" (John de Lancie, insert your Stargate and/or Legend joke here) get out of prison, Sara Ashford (Kristina Wayborn) draws a Colt Mk IV and reveals the truth about why she wanted Brian out of prison. Brian steals Sara's Colt and flees the scene. Brian is seen with the Colt Mk IV tucked in his pants during the armsdeal.

In "The Assassin" (S1E22), DXS Agent Connors (Greg Norberg) carries a Colt Mk IV early on the episode. Connors loses his Colt Mk IV to assassin Piedra (Anthony De Longis) when the latter escapes.

Colt MK IV Series 70 - .45 ACP

In "The Heist" (S1E05), Catlin (Vernon Wells) shoots Sims. The Colt Mk IV here is real and this is the expression that the actor has before firing the gun. It's apparent that Vernon Wells is bit s**tting his pants in here and his expression significantly eases after firing it. Also this appears to be a mirrored shot, since the ejection port is visible on the wrong side.

Stunt M1911

Appears in "The Gauntlet" (S1E04). The high-ranking enemy officer's M1911 alters between a this M1911 variant and a Colt Mk IV. It's distinguishable from the black barrel/ejection port. The pistol is possibly a non-firing prop pistol for stuntwork, as it is subjected to physical impact when MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) smacks it with a steel bar hidden in a rolled-up map.

Star Model BM

In "Golden Triangle" (S1E02), a nickel, pearl-grip Star Model BM is the sidearm of General Narai (George Cheung). It's seen holstered in his earlier scenes. When MacGyver forces his copter to land, he draws this pistol. However, once he gets out of the helicopter, he is immediately disarmed by MacGyver's hi-keeba move, forcing the two go hand-to-hand. After Gen. Narai dies, MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) picks the general's gun up.

Star Model BM (nickel) - 9x19mm

Walther PP

Walther PP has multiple appearances during this season. Notably, it is used by Peter "Pete" Thorthon (Dana Elcar) as his sidearm through the season and wields it in the episodes "Nightmares" (S1E11), "Deathlock" (S1E12), "Countdown" (S1E14) and "The Assassin" (S1E22). Also characters other than Pete Thorton use the Walther PP in the episodes "Thief of Budapest" (S1E03) and "The Assassin" (S1E22).

In The Assassin" (S1E22), Peter Thorthon (Dana Elcar) pistolwhips Piedra (Anthony De Longis) with (possible) Walther PP. Allegedly, Richard Dean Anderson almost cut his wrists by the Balisongs hold by actor/stuntman Anthony De Longis here, as the latter collapses upon the former.

Walther PPK

Besides fullsized PP, the compact Walther PPK also has couple of appearances. In "Thief of Budapest" (S1E03), Walther PPK is carried by Hungarian police. In the episode "The Enemy Within" (S1E15), Viktoria Tomanova (Viktoriya Fyodorova) is seen with a Walther PPK.

Raven Arms MP-25

Appears in "The Heist" (S1E05). After diamond heist, Chris Rhodes (Doran Clark) gets caught by Jack Catlin (Vernon Wells) and the latter uses the former to force MacGyver to return his diamonds. MacGyver driving a MG MGB with the diamonds in the back trunk meets the henchwench Tiffany (Victoria Bass), who enters the car and draws a Raven Arms MP-25 on MacGyver and guides Mac to Chris' location. At the airport, she keeps the gun trained on MacGyver.

Heckler & Koch P9S

Both the pre-'73 and post-'73 models of the Heckler & Koch P9S appear multiple times during this season.

In "Last Stand" (S1E07), after getting the money out of the armored car, a P9S appears on the desk when the badguys are counting the money. After MacGyver's escape fails about midway thru the episode, a goon named Elias (Anthony Pena) starts using it. Elias carried a Colt Mk IV earlier in the episode, but during a car chase, he gave the Colt to his boss, Terry, who pretty much overtook the gun for himself.

In "Nightmares" (S1E11) - both P9 variants appear. A pre-'73 model with a suppressor attached is used Barrett (J.P Bumstead). The post-'73 model appears in hands of Colonel Curt Neilson (Robert O'Reilly), who gets the P9S out in the finale after MacGyver takes out the remaining two goons. Curt ends up losing the P9S when he and MacGyver end up grappling on ground.

In "The Enemy Within " (S1E15), Reverend Mather (Douglas Dirkson) uncovers a pre-'73 P9S under cloth beneath the podium desk when the GRU assassin Anton Lem (Beau Starr) activates the Reverend's brainwashing during his speech. It turns into Heckler & Koch VP70 due to continuity error.

In "To Be A Man" (S1E17), villainous Khalil (Sid Haig) wields a post-'73 P9S. After Khalil is downed, young boy Ahmed (Ajay Naidu) tries to give the P9S to MacGyver to finish Khalil off.

In "The Escape" (S1E20), when the big prison escape goes down, the Commadant (Vic Polizos) is seen with a (maybe) H&K P9S. Which version is unknown, as trigger guard ends up being obscured too much.

In "The Assassin" (S1E22), some of the agents of the security outfit tasked in protecting the archbishop have post-'73 H&K P9S with supressor. Notably agent named Lopez (Robert Covarrubias) is seen with one when Mac and co. search for Piedra at the last part of episode.

Heckler & Koch P7

Heckler & Koch P7 appears in two episodes during this season.

H&K P7 first appears in the episode "The Prodigal" (S1E09). At the beginning, mafia goons take Frank Bennett (Robert Romanus) to a woodshop, where he meets his brother, Joey Bennett (Richard Romanus, actually Robert Romanus' brother). Joey intends to silence his brother and orders a goon named Max (Stan Kamber) to give him a gun. Max draws a H&K P7 (judging from markings, it's one of early 80's "Arlington, VA" import P7s) from a shoulder holster and gives it to Joey. After MacGyver causes a distraction and gets Frank to safety, Joey throws the gun back to Max and boards the car to chase MacGyver. In the last part of the episode - at Bennet Family Home - after Frank tells Joey that their mother died, Joey only remarks that he will "miss her, as he is going to miss [Joey]" and Max draws the P7 and escorts Frank to a place to shoot him. However, MacGyver uses a string and rod to trip Joey and Max on stairs, allowing Frank to escape. Max shoots at the escapees but misses.

H&K P7 appears for second time in the season finale, "The Assassin" (S1E22). It first appears in hands of a black DXS Agent tasked in guarding Piedra. It later appears in hands agents of the security outfit tasked in protecting the archbishop. Notably wielded by Emilio (Richard Yniguez) - head of security for archbishop's protection - during the scene where he interrogates MacGyver and Terry Ross. He asks a random agent named Raoul to give him a P7. MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) manages to get hold of the P7 after using a ruler to bounce a telephone to cause a distraction. Mac gives the P7 to Terry Ross (Corinne Bohrer) while he calls Pete. After Pete tells that Piedra has escaped, Emilio retakes the P7 while he and Mac go try intercept him.

In "The Prodigal" (S1E09), Max (Stan Kamber) responds to Joey Bennett's (Richard Romanus) command and draws his H&K P7 out of his holster.

So that in-case criminal swipes the officer's gun it won't get used against the officer?

Heckler & Koch VP70

Heckler & Koch VP70 appears in two episodes during this season.

"The Enemy Within " (S1E15). When Reverend Mather's (Douglas Dirkson) brainwashing kicks in, he unveils a gun concealed in cloth under the podium desk. First the gun is a pre-'73 Heckler & Koch P9S, but when the Reverend reveals the gun to the event attendees, it has turned into Heckler & Koch VP70. Reverend loads the gun and starts to fire at the crowd at seemingly random. It later appears in the hands of the GRU assassin Anton Lem (Beau Starr) in the episode finale. He loses the gun when MacGyver pushes a TV stand at him. MacGyver picks the gun up and puts it aside. The gun appears to be real, as when the reverend fires it, it ejects a casing, exhalts large muzzle blast and the barrel is smoking after shooting it.

In "Ugly Duckling" (S1E18), a goon named Larkin (Ned Bellamy) has VP70 with a supressor attached. He first uses it during the botched attempt to abduct the Professor Willis (Richard McKenzie). He is seen with the pistol out while talking to his boss, Hatcher (Lee de Broux). He notably wields it during a action scene in a computer class, trying to capture Kate Lafferty (Darcy Marta). He pistolwhips MacGyver uncouncious with it.

Heckler & Koch VP70Z - 9x19mm

In "The Enemy Within " (S1E15), brainwashed Reverend Mather (Douglas Dirkson) opens fire at the crowd with a Heckler & Koch VP70. Note the smoke coming from the barrel. This is possibly a real gun since it also ejects casings and muzzle blast is seen.

Browning Hi-Power

Appears in "Target MacGyver" (S1E10), one of Axminster's men loads a Browning Hi-Power before attacking Harry Jackson's (John Anderson, unrelated to Richard Dean Anderson) cabin. The Hi-Power is not used for remainder of the episode, as the Axminster's goons carry Type 56 rifles for all times.

Astra 600 appears in "Every Time She Smiles" (S1E16). It's the sidearm of Major Stepan Frolov (Kai Wulff) during the episode.

Beretta M1951 appears in "Every Time She Smiles" (S1E16). It's wielded by General Petrovich (Milos Kirek) when he reveals himself at his home during near end of the episode. Major Stepan (Kai Wulff) and MacGyver wrestle the gun away from him.

Tokarev TT-33

Tokarev TT-33 appears in episode "A Prisoner of Conscience" (S1E21). It's first wielded by bodyguard who accompanies Dr. Suvarin (Paul Koslo), when MacGyver's cover has been blown. After "The Chess Master" (Marvin Kaplan) attacks Dr. Suvarin, bodyguard's attention shifts and leaves himself open to MacGyver's disarming hi-keeba move. Yuri Demetri (Elya Baskin) rushes the guard and aquires the Tokarev. After Mac and co drug the mental institution by spiking the staff coffee, Yuri goes to prowl a sedated bodyguard for a second Tokarev.

Colt Detective Special

Colt Detective Special revolvers of various generations appears in this season.

In "Pilot" (S1E01), once MacGyver finally reaches Dr. Carl Steubens (Paul Stewart) and Dr. Sidney Marlowe (Olaf Pooley), the former reaches out to a drawer and pulls out a nickel Colt Detective Special. He keeps MacGyver and Dr. Marlowe at bay while the group discusses about Dr. Steubens' motives. Rashly acting Barbara Spencer (Darlanne Fluegel) rushes at Steubens and tries to wrestle the gun away, but the gun goes off and Barbara gets shot. Startled Steubens drops his guard and MacGyver uses the chance to disarm him.

In "The Last Stand" (S1E07), Security guard that was stuck in a armored car has one. However, he is shot by Buddy (Lewis Van Bergen) before he can use it to defend himself. It's seemingly used by Turk (Jackie Earle Haley) after he loses his first gun.

Colt Official Police appears in episode "The Gauntlet" (S1E03). When MacGyver enters a secret print-house for a underground news pamphlet, he encounters a man named Diego (Sam Vlahos) working on a print machine. After getting Diego's attention, he proceeds to draw a Colt Official Police on MacGyver. When Kate Connely (Robin Curtis) asks MacGyver to join in for a quick job, Diego intends give the revolver to MacGyver for protection. However, MacGyver refuses in first clear instance in the show of character expressing his distain towards firearms.

Colt Python has few appearances during this season.

In "Target MacGyver" (S1E10), it appears in the opening gambit. Both of the kidnappers seem to carry Colt Python revolvers. After MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) trips the kidnappers, he aquires one of the Colt Pythons and holds the goons at bay.

In Countdown (S1E14), a DXS plainclothes agent is seen with a Colt Python after the "Viking" tells that he has aquired the ransom money from the locker that's under DXS surveillance.

In "Target MacGyver" (S1E10) - Kidnapper and MacGyver race to grab the Colt Python in sand. This is not the Python he is later seen with, as here he merely throws this one aside.

Colt Lawman MK III appears in the episode "The Assassin" (S1E22). After Mac and Emilio go search for Piedra, Terry (Corinne Bohrer) notices a open suitcase that contains a Colt Lawman. After Piedra's assassination attempt goes sour, Terry Ross comes and confronts Piedra with the Colt Lawman. However, Mac yells Terry not to do it, allowing Piedra (Anthony De Longis) to mug the from her.

Smith & Wesson Model 28

Smith & Wesson Model 28 appears in "Flame's End" (S1E13). It first appears in last quarter of the episode; after MacGyver and Amy Austin (Tannis G. Montgomery) find the hidden uranium, Tim Wexler (Robert Englund) confronts the two with a Magnum on hand. However, MacGyver tells Tim that the latter doesn't have courage to shoot them. Despite Tim threathening to shoot MacGyver and Amy, Mac's guesses right and Tim is unable to shoot and drops the gun in grief. Later, after Police Chief Ed Train (Conlan Carter) is revealed to be a partner-in-crime, he grabs the S&W dropped by Tim after his Colt runs dry. Train tries to shoot MacGyver with it. Mac kicks him and Train ends up shooting one of the pipes that containing hazardous substance, fatally contaminating him. Amy picks up the revolver to keep it away from Train. Later, Mac is trying to open a valve to avoid meltdown, he slips and loses the wrench. Forced to improvise, Mac asks Amy to give Train's gun. He dislodges the chamber and uses the frame of the gun as a wrench to open the valve and avert the disaster.

Winchester Model 1912

Appears in "Trumbo's World" (S1E06). The Winchester Model 1912 first appears in Luiz's (Will Gotay) hands when MacGyver and Charles Alden (Peter Jurasik) venture into Trumbo's property. Luiz carries it when MacGyver is working on pump and for a short while in Trumbo's villa. It's later carried by Lucien Trumbo (David Ackroyd) when Mac and Charlie go to jungle to see what is the cause of the disarray. When Trumbo's workers try to leave, he tries to intimidate them by firing a warning shot, which prompts MacGyver's ire. MacGyer (Richard Dean Anderson) proceeds to knock Trumbo off the horse and throws the shotgun into the river.

Over and Under Shotgun

A Over and Under Shotgun appears couple of times during this season.

In "The Enemy Within" (S1E15), A Jeager (Adam Gregor) encounters MacGyver with a Over-and-under Shotgun. He drops the gun when East German soldiers surround him and Macgyver.

In "A Prisoner of Conscience" (S1E21), at the beggining, one of the Soviet Secret Police's plainclothes agents chasing MacGyver and friends has O/U Shotgun. During the speedboat chase, the officer with O/U actively fires it at Mac and co. The officer is seen breaking open the shotgun to reload, so this shotgun isn't a pump or semi-auto. Make of the O/U shotgun is impossible to tell from poor transfer quality.

Ithaca 37

Appears in "Ugly Duckling" (S1E18). Ithaca 37 Deer Slayer Police Special appears in last a parts of the episode in hands of numerous goons. In this episode, the Ithaca 37 is subject of a infamous MacGyverism where MacGyver uses sun-beam projection to heat up the Ithaca 37's bottom ejection/loading port, causing the chambered shotgun shell to go off and cause a disproportionately big explosion.

Rifles and Carbines

Valmet M71S

In "Pilot" (S1E01), Central Asian soldiers as well as MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) are seen using the Valmet M71S, standing in for the AK-47. All of these rifles appear to have 30-round .223 pre-ban metal magazines. Based on the shape of the stock, these are plastic handguard/resin-stock variants.

Norinco Type 56

Norinco Type 56 rifles also appear in the series. Frequently the Type 56 appears with a AKM-style slant cut muzzle break, presumably to pass off as a AKM, yet the trademark Type 56 front sight is often visible on them. Ocassionally, there are Type 56 without the slant-cut muzzle break. This rifle usually appears when a character within the episode needs to fire a live AK-type rifle on screen, as there is muzzle flash and ejecting casings coming from this rifle.

In "Pilot" (S1E01), MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) goes to seek a missile that's hidden in a tent, a noticeable continuity error occurs, as the Valmet M71 he carried in the previous scene has changed to an Type 56 with slant muzzle break. He later uses the Type 56 as part of a MacGyver'ed distraction to allow MacGyver to get the captured fighter pilot escape from a cage. Most peculiarly, MacGyver - who is later established as a person with strong dislike torwards firearms - opens fire towards chasing soldiers to fend them off; the reason for the uncharacteristically casual way he handles firearms in the pilot episode is exactly because this is the pilot episode. So details like MacGyver's backstory and aversion of firearms were merely in flux, depending on whatever the show would get picked up by a tv network or not. He later gives the Type 56 to prisoner while he starts to work on the escape plan.

In "Golden Triangle" (S1E02), the rifle appears in hands of one the villagers when they prepare for Gen. Narai's counterattack as evidenced by the full-scooped hood on it. Live-firing variants are seen in a trap the villagers rig. Which, instead of horribly mauling the Burmese soldiers, it just blows the tires of all their jeeps.

In "Thief of Budapest" (S1E03), Type 56 rifles appear in the hands of Hungarian prison guards. Once riot starts, a one is stolen by a prisoner. When MacGyver and gang make a escape with a van, bunch of soldiers are shown to fire live Type 56 rifles. Even though they fire real guns, it's just trick photography exploting angle cuts.

In "Gauntlet" (S1E04), the rifles are wielded by Arabic soldiers in the episode's opening gambit. One soldier fires a live Type 56 on screen.

In "Target MacGyver" (S1E10), Type 56 rifles are used by Axminster (D'Mitch Davis) and his underlings through-out the whole episode. In finale, they use trick photography to fool the viewer into thinking that Type 56 firing in full auto.

In "Deathlock" (S1E12), during the opening gambit, when plan to smuggle MacGyver out of East Germany goes sour, the border guards with Type 56 move out. They are seen firing their Type 56 rifles at MacGyver on his coffin jetski.

AK-47

AK-47 and/or its better clones - with traditional muzzle/without slant cut compensator and open hood sights - are featured in the series.

In "Pilot" (S1E01), there is a moment in the opening gambit when MacGyver starts wrestling away a AK from a enemy soldier, that has a stubby muzzle instead of the slanted one MacGyver has later.

In "The Golden Triangle" (S1E02), Burmese Soldiers under General Narai have AK-47(s) with open hood sights. It's later seen in hands of the villagers after they prepare against Gen. Narai's retribution, though MacGyver proposes non-lethal approach. Gerald Okamura has a small cameo role as one of the Burmese soldiers.

In "Thief of Budapest" (S1E03), the rifle appears in the hands of Hungarian prison guards. Notably a Fat jerk soldier clearly has a Type III AK-47.

In "Deathlock" (S1E12)" - if the lifted footage from Funeral in Berlin is anything to go by, this one border guard has a fixed stock AK-47 the opening gambit.

In "Every Time She Smiles" (S1E16), it is wielded by Bulgarian Militsiya when they enter the Airport with Major Stepan Frolov (Kai Wulff) to confront Penny Parker (Teri Hatcher) over the diamonds.

In "To Be a Man" (S1E17), one Soviet infantry man has a Type III AK-47. For some reason it has it's rear sight up. In next scene, it's a slant-muzzle Type 56.

AKM (Maadi ARM)

AKM (or Maadi ARM) has couple of appearances. These are possibly some of the Maadi ARM that were converted full-auto during shooting of Red Dawn (1984).

In "The Enemy Within " (S1E15), appears in the beginning scene at East Germany. one of the soldiers is seen firing a fully-automatic AKM with open hood sights.

In To Be a Man" (S1E17), during the scene where MacGyver uses a hang-glider made from a downed satellite, one of the Afghans working for Soviets has a AKM/Maadi ARM.

In "The Escape" (S1E20) - while the guards at Harosh prison mainly have Type 56 rifles, they also have some AKM/Maadi ARM in mix.

M16 (first version)

The first version of M16 seems to be the dominant AR-15 variant through-out the season. The M16s frequently appear with distinguishable 3-prong flash hider and flat "slab side receiver."

In the village, the soldiers fall for MacGyver's smoke trap and the villagers attack the soldiers, with few of the villagers disarming them and capturing their M16s. MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) takes one away too.

"The Gauntlet" (S1E04) - used by South American soldiers under General Antonio Vasquez's (Gregory Sierra) command. MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) briefly acquires one and does nothing with it.

"Last Stand" (S1E07) - The derranged hillbilly mall-ninja Buddy (Lewis Van Bergen) flails around with a M16 (1st version) through-out the episode. First seen hiding it behind the corner when MacGyver first arrives to airport diner. He enters the diner and after MacGyver spots a "Help" message on his coffee cup, Buddy draws his M16 on MacGyver. For the diner scene, he uses the M16 to harass the hostages. When the armored car arrives, Terry Andrews (Michael McGuire) takes Buddy's M16 for a while. After getting the armored car open, Buddy uses his M16 to shoot the security guard who was stuck inside. Buddy has the M16 while chasing MacGyver and hostages trying to escape with water truck on a motorcycle. He takes Kelly Nielson (Kay Lenz) hostage with it. He brings out M16 again in the finale. After Buddy is disarmed by MacGyver, the latter uses the M16 as a melee weapon to knock out Buddy. MacGyver gives the M16 to Dave Redding (Art Hindle) and then chef Al Tennyson (Harry Caesar) takes it over.

"Ugly Duckling" (S1E18) - used by black-clad operatives who hijack the Snake-Eye missile in first scene.

The original M16, the first version, firing in a 20-round magazine, adopted in large numbers by the US Air Force in Vietnam. This has the original 3-prong flash hider. It would later be replaced by the upgraded M16A1 - 5.56x45mm

The MGC M16 Assault rifle: a non firing metal replica built by the Model Gun Corp of Japan and one of the most used non firing replicas of the M16 in movies and television. The 'forward assist' on the early models like the one imaged here are bolt inserts to keep the receiver together. Modern MGC M16 replicas have improved by third parties over the years (like adding A1 flash hiders) making it more accurate to the real thing making it harder for 'Connoisseurs' to identify

Joey takes the Uzi for a while when he orders Tommy and Max to get a bench to use to break the door.

It should be noted, that using a magazine-fed firearm as an unmanned sentry gun, would be highly unwise, as the ammunition would run out rather quickly.

M60

M60 has a few appearances in the season.

In "Pilot" (S1E01), an M60 is seen in the Central Asian encampment in the opening gambit.

In "The Gauntlet" (S1E04), a M60 is visible on the table after MacGyver and Kate Connelly have been caught by Gen. Vasquez's men. The items in the table had changed from the previous scene with the exception of M47 Dragon. Previously there was a FIM-43 and M202 Flash, now there is M60 and plastic explosives.

In "The Escape" (S1E20), the guards at Harosh prison get the M60 out when the Commadant (Vic Polizos) orders prison to get ready for MacGyver's escape.

In Pilot (S1E01), MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) and Gatner (Michael Lerner) are flown to the Underground Research Facility in a specialized helicopter. In reality, this was a reuse of the famous Blue Thunder helicopter that would also later be used in the ABC miniseries Amerika. The Blue Thunder helicopter here still has the faux M61 Vulcan mounted under the nose.

Browning M1919

Both, a real and a mock-up Browning M1919 appear in the episode "The Golden Triangle" (S1E02). General Narai's (George Cheung) men find two (mock-up) Browning M1919(s) from a downed aircraft. By Narai's blessing, the men install these to the General's helicopter. You can tell these are mock-up props from the fact that their recievers lack any detail. At the episode's climax, General attacks the villagers with the machine gun armed helicopter. Actual A4 variant appears in the last quarter of the episode on the jeeps of the Burmese soldiers.

An M60D mocked up to resemble the DShK heavy machine gun appears on a Soviet LUV in "To Be A Man" (S1E17). This DShk mockup was commonplace in media productions of the 1980s such as Red Dawn (1984), Airwolf, and Rambo: First Blood Part II.

M202 FLASH (prop)

In "The Gauntlet" (S1E04), Dave Ryerson (John Vernon) is selling black market US surplus weapons to Gen. Vasquez (Gregory Sierra), amongst them is the four-barreled M202 FLASH. Judging by the boxy appearance of the launcher body with only small rounded-off sections at the corners, this is probalbly either the same prop launcher used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando or a replica of it. It disappears in next scene and is replaced by an M60 (the prop M202 FLASH was probably removed to protect it from the pyrotechnics that occur around the table).

Appears in "To Be a Man" (S1E17). Red Army Soldiers use a M2 Mortar to bombard MacGyver, who is hiding at hilltop and working on a hang-glider out of a felled satellite remains. In real life, the 50mm RM-38 Mortar (and it's developments) would be the M2's closest Soviet counterpart.

RPG-7

Appears in "To Be A Man" (S1E17). When MacGyver - alongside Zia and Ahmed - try to cross border to Pakistan by a 4x4, a single Red Army LUV unit locates them and gives chase. The unit leader orders a lesser-ranked soldier to use a RPG-7 to kill the fleeing MacGyver and friends. This launcher is likely the same prop from Red Dawn (1984).

M8 Flare Pistol (modified)

Appears in the "Pilot" (S1E01). MacGyver investigates a downed fighter jet and finds an M8 Flare Pistol. When Mac and the prisoner try to escape, MacGyver uses a rock to flatten the barrel in order to create a little rocket thruster for the escape.

MacGyver scoops a bit and blowing it up by jamming a camera's cord in it and putting it on timed flash (?). Obviously these are not real explosives, and are most likely white Blu Tack or a similar compound.

RGD-5 hand grenade

Appears in "The Escape" (S1E20), MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) finds some RGD-5 hand grenade(s) during "Brian Ashford"'s arms deal.

He uses a trail of gunpowder to blow up a truck and mess up the arms deal. However, this would not really work. For gunpowder to explode, it must be confined in a tight package when it's detonated. As seen here, it would have just burned out and not exploded.

Featured in episode "Ugly Duckling" (S1E18) is a fictional "Snake-Eye Missile", which is described as an defective American surface-to-air heatseeker missile system with excess number of these missiles on surplus. The plot revolves around a new, upgraded guidance system that allows the Snake-Eye to be retooled into a programmable "surface-to-any target" missile.

"Snake Eye" is actually a term applied to the petal-retarded version of the Mk 82 500lb iron bomb.

"Ugly Duckling" (S1E18) - Kate Lafferty (Darcy Marta) fiddling with the missile. The prop seems to actually be based on one of the Paveway series of laser-guided bombs.

She intends to kill assassin Piedra to avenge her sister -Lila - unaware that Piedra has been apprihended and that MacGyver is posing as him at the moment. She puts the gun in her purse. During a carchase when she and Mac are pursued by unknown men, she drops the purse and it's insides get out on asphalt. In hurry, she only picks the revolver. When She and Mac reach to hotel, she draws the gun on MacGyver. MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) disarms her and gets the hold of the gun. Is it just me or does this change between a Colt and S&W snubnose?

BONUS: Lifted footage

Season 1 of MacGyver is little notorious for its stock footage lifted from previous motion pictures. The majority of the lifted footage was from films released by Paramount Pictures, as MacGyver was also Paramount production.

• In "Thief of Budapest" (S1E03), the footage from the original 1969 film The Italian Job was used of the three Mini Coopers racing from the police in Italy. Almost everyone who has seen this show knows about this one instance of lifted footage.
• In "The Heist" (S1E05), MacGyver's MGB car parachuting out of the back of a cargo plane was actually from a mid 80's TV commercial for the British Leyland Motors MG Car Company.
• In "Trumbo's World" (S1E06), much of the plot as well as the footage is taken from The Naked Jungle (1954), notably footage of Christopher Leiningen (Charlton Heston) flooding the ants out in the field.
• In "Target MacGyver" (S1E10), when MacGyver is seen blowing up a reactor plant at night, the actual explosions were taken from the film Tobruk (1967).
• In "Deathlock" (S1E12), the footage of the East German border guards was taken from the Michael Caine film Funeral in Berlin (1966).
