Season 4 (2002-2003)

The following lists the weapons seen in Season 4 of the series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit:

Handguns

Glock 19

The Glock 19 is the sidearm carried by the majority of NYPD detectives in the Special Victims Unit including Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), Detective John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice-T). Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) is sometimes seen carrying one in some episodes. Uniformed NYPD Officers are seen using Glock 19s as well. Like many television shows and films, many times when a Glock is seen being drawn, the sound effect of a hammer cocking is heard (despite the fact that Glocks are hammerless).

Smith & Wesson Model 36

Capt. Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) carries a Smith & Wesson Model 36 as his sidearm, notably drawing it in "Risk" (S4E12). This was the revolver he carried during the first three seasons of Law & Order. As Cragen had been serving on the force since the 1970s, it would not be uncommon for veteran NYPD Detectives, who were sworn officers prior to 1993, to carry a revolver. In "Grief" (S4E23), another S&W Model 36 is used by a victim to commit suicide with, and is identified as a "Smith & Wesson Model 36" by CSU.

Submachine Guns

The NYPD ESU Officers throughout the series use Heckler & Koch MP5A3s as one of their main weapons. They are fitted with various attachments, such as scopes or tactical flashlights.
