The first season follows Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie Williams (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. The season premiered on the premium cable channel HBO on January 15, 2023.

Handguns

Beretta Model 70

As in the game, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) uses a Beretta Model 70.

Colt M1911A1

Robert (Brendan Fletcher) uses what appears to be a Colt M1911A1 during a firefight with the Fireflies in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01).

Kim Tembo (Natasha Mumba) points what appears to be a Colt Commander at Joel after a firefight with the Robert's gang in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01).

Glock 17

A member of the Fireflies holds a Glock 17 in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). One of Robert's men is armed with a gun at the end of the episode. The Indonesian soldier carries what appears to be a Glock 17 pistol in a holster in the flashback at the beginning of "Infected" (S1E02).

The gun lies in the foreground in front of Robert's dead man at the end of the episode.

The soldier accompanying Lieutenant General Agus Hidayat (Yayu A.W. Unru) and Doctor Ratna Pertiwi (Christine Hakim) carries a pistol in his holster at the beginning of "Infected" (S1E02).

SIG-Sauer P226R

A member of the Fireflies holds a SIG-Sauer P226R in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). Marlene (Merle Dandridge, reprising the role from the video game) also takes and uses the P226R.

Sub-Compact 1911 Pistol

Tess (Anna Torv) is armed with a sub-compact modern 1911 pistol before going into the tunnel in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). At the end of the episode, she briefly uses the gun during a conflict with Marlene and Kim. Before entering the Bostonian Museum in "Infected" (S1E02), Tess pulls out her gun again and shoots several times during a confrontation with the clickers.

Taurus Model 66

As in the game, Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) uses a Taurus Model 66 with blued finish, 4-inch barrel and rubber grips as his primary weapon in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). In "Infected" (S1E02), Joel's gun is seen holstered most of the time. However, he shoots the clickers in the Bostonian Museum several times after losing his rifle. In the video game Joel uses a shorter barreled version of the Taurus Model 66.

Joel tries to silently reload his revolver, hiding from the distracted clicker. This is a reference to a similar scene from the game trailer.

After close contact, he shoots the clicker several times, protecting Ellie.

Unknown Pistol

A FEDRA soldiers carry unknown pistols as a sidearm notably in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01).

The pistol grip is visible in the left soldier's holster.

The FEDRA Officer (Andrea Greening) announces the verdict with a pistol in a holster.

Lee (Max Montesi) carries a pistol.

Rifles

AK-47

An AK-47 can be seen next to the dead member of the Fireflies in the State House at the end of "Infected" (S1E02). When the crowd of infected is awakened by the survivors, Tess (Anna Torv) takes a gun to turn over the barrels of fuel.

Colt Model 715 / Diemaco C7

Two Indonesian soldiers guard the entrance to the lab with Colt Model 715 / Diemaco C7 rifles in the flashback at the beginning of "Infected" (S1E02). While the Indonesian military historically used the M16A1, they would have been using the Pindad SS1 as their main weapon circa 2003.

Colt Model 715 (virtually identical rifle to the Colt Canada C7) - 5.56x45mm

A soldier guards the entrance to the laboratory with a Colt Model 715 / Diemaco C7 rifle. The rifle was likely used because filming of the series took place in Canada, and is distinguishable from the M16A1 by the presence of a brass deflector and a heavier profile barrel.

M4A1

An American soldier (showrunner Craig Mazin in a cameo role) who encounters Joel and Sarah is armed with a M4A1 carbine with a flashlight and scope in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). FEDRA soldiers, include Lee (Max Montesi), are also seen with an M4A1 in the same episode. Toward the end of the episode, Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) picks up Lee's rifle after killing him and continues to use the gun in "Infected" (S1E02), notable during the confrontation with the two clickers at the Bostonian Museum and near the Massachusetts State House at the end of the episode.

Remington 700 BDL

Tommy Miller (Gabriel Luna) is armed with a Remington 700 BDL during the start of the apocalypse in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). Joel (Pedro Pascal) also uses a scoped rifle.

Ruger Mini-14

A member of the Fireflies opens fire on a squad of FEDRA soldiers with what appears to be a Ruger Mini-14 in "When You're Lost in the Darkness" (S1E01). In one of the HBO trailers Joel (Pedro Pascal) is shown using a Ruger Mini-14 with a folding stock and pistol grip.It appears that it might be a Mini-14 GB-F ("Government Barrel, Folding Stock) variant.

Shotguns

Remington 870

A Remington 870 shotgun lies next to the dead member of the Fireflies in the State House at the end of "Infected" (S1E02). Bill (Nick Offerman) also uses the shotgun.

M67 Hand Grenade

Preparing a trap for the crowd of infected in "Infected" (S1E02), Tess (Anna Torv) overturns a crate of M67 hand grenades, pouring gasoline on them.

Several flintlock rifles and pistols are seen in a display cases in the Bostonian Museum in "Infected" (S1E02).
