Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising is a 2004 first-person shooter developed and published by Novalogic. Set in then-near future Indonesia, the populous archipelago nation is riven by separatist movements who have acquired large amounts of modern weaponry, as the nation's military forces disintegrate into warlord factions. The primary play mode is multiplayer, where Western-aligned Joint Operations forces oppose local Rebels.

The following weapons appear in the video game Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising and its expansion pack Joint Operations: Escalation:

Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising (2004)
Joint Operations: Escalation (2004)

Handguns

Beretta 92SB

Secondary weapon for all Joint Ops classes is the Beretta 92SB. It is a stand-in for the military M9. Called "M9 Baretta" (note incorrect spelling, possibly a confusion between the American manufacturer Barrett and the Italian manufacturer Beretta) in-game. This substitution also appears in Call of Duty's Modern Warfare series.

Beretta Model 92SB - 9x19mm (note rounded trigger guard and flat bottom magazine).
Note the rounded trigger guard, telltale of a 92SB. Also note the upside-down safety. The grip is correct of a M9.

Colt M1911A1

An alternate secondary weapon for all classes is the Colt M1911A1. Called "Colt 1911A1". Both sides can use it.

World War II Colt M1911A1 - .45 ACP
Aiming and reloading. Note the engravings on the side that match the M911A1.

Glock 17

The secondary weapon for all Rebel classes is the Glock 17. It was added with the Escalation expansion pack.

Generation 3 Glock 17 - 9x19mm
Here the slide stop doesn't align with the notch in the slide.

Heckler & Koch Mark 23

The Heckler & Koch Mark 23 was added in the Escalation expansion pack. Available to the Joint Ops Gunner, Rifleman, and Medic classes. Comes with a non-useable LAM.

Smith & Wesson Model 686

Called the "Smith & Wesson .357", the Smith & Wesson Model 686 appears as an alternate secondary weapon for all Rebel classes.

Smith & Wesson Model 686 4" Barrel - .357 Magnum
Exactly how the player reloads the revolver is unknown because it has neither a cylinder latch nor an ejector rod.

Submachine Guns

FN P90

The FN P90 was added in the Escalation expansion pack. Available to the Medic, Rifleman, and Engineer as a primary weapon for both sides.

Fabrique Nationale P90 - 5.7x28mm
JO E - P90.jpg

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

The Heckler & Koch MP5A3 appears as a primary weapon for the Rifleman and Medic class of both sides. Is also available suppressed. It appears under the names "MP5-10" and "MP5 Suppressed", implying it is supposed to be the Heckler & Koch MP5/10, but both MP5s have curved 30-round 9x19mm magazines. Combined with sliding stocks and an approximation of the MP5A2-style trigger group, these weapons are closer in form to the MP5A3.

The MP5 without the suppressor.
The MP5 with the sound suppressor attached.
The MP5 is featured in multiple crates in the armory.

Rifles

Colt Model 727

The Colt Model 727 appears in the armory. It is probably a cut weapon in the final game and uses the same model from Delta Force: Black Hawk Down.

Colt Model 727 - 5.56x45mm
The Model 727 on the right is found among the weapons in the armory. Note the elongated 20-round magazine.

FN FNC

The FN FNC was added into the game with the Escalation expansion pack. Available to the Rebel Medic, Rifleman, and Engineer classes, it is possibly standing in for the Pindad SS2.

Heckler & Koch G3

The Heckler & Koch G3 was added in the Escalation expansion pack. It is available as a primary weapon for the Rifleman class of both sides.

M16A2

The M16A2 is a primary weapon for all Joint Ops classes. It is also available with and without the M203 grenade launcher to the Rifleman class. Called "M16" and "M16/M203", respectively.

M16A2 - 5.56x45mm
JOTR M16.jpg

M4A1

The M4A1 is a primary weapon for the Joint Ops Rifleman, Medic, and Engineer classes. It is available with and without the M203 grenade launcher to the Rifleman class. Called "M4" and "M4/M203" respectively.

Colt M4A1 Carbine with M68 Aimpoint reflex optic and Knight's Armament RAS railed handguard and vertical forward grip - 5.56x45mm
The M4A1 comes with standard red dot sight, free floating handguard, and an ANPEQ laser pointer.
The world model of the M4A1 exhibits multiple inaccuracies such as the absence of a shell ejection port or the lack of a forward assist and the fact that it was modeled with a 16" barrel.

Norinco Type 56

The Type 56 assault rifle is a primary weapon for all Rebel classes. Available with and without the GP-30 grenade launcher to the Rifleman class, where it is called "AK-47" and "AK-47/GP-25" respectively. Although it appears as the "AK-47", the version in-game clearly has a hooded front sight, making it a Chinese Type 56.

Type 56 assault rifle aka M22 - 7.62x39mm.
The front sight is waaaaaay to short on this rifle to be actually useful.

Norinco Type 84S

The Norinco Type 84S is another primary weapon for all Rebel classes. Available with and without the GP-30 grenade launcher to the Rifleman class, where it is called "AK-74" and "AK-74/GP-25" respectively. Like the alleged AK-47, this actually is a Norinco Type 84. Oddly, the magazine appears to be a polymer 5.45x39mm magazine, which would be correct for the AK-74.

Norinco Type 84S - 5.56x45mm
The Norinco Type 84S is equipped with a non-removable Kobra red-dot sight by default. It also lacks the holes in the handguard.

Shotguns

Remington 870

The Remington 870 is a secondary weapon for the Rifleman, Gunner, and Engineer classes of both teams.

Remington Model 870 New Police Tactical Model with Magpul CTR telescoping stock - 12 gauge
The Remington is, like many other weapons in the game, reloaded off-screen. Note the rifle sights and the misplaced rear sight.
The Remington 870 next to a Colt Model 727. It has a pistol grip, folding stock, extended magazine tub,e and heat shield; none of those appear to be on the first-person model except for the magazine tube.

Sniper Rifles

Accuracy International AWM

The Accuracy International AWM appears as a primary weapon for the Sniper class of both teams. Called "L115A1".

Barrett M82A1

Launchers

FGM-148 Javelin

The FGM-148 Javelin was added with the Escalation expansion pack. Available to the Engineer class of both sides. The launcher needs to lock-on before it can be fired. The weapon was added as a countermeasure to the tanks that the expansion pack brought in.

FGM-148 Javelin - 142mm

FIM-92A Stinger

The FIM-92A Stinger appears as the only anti-air weapon, available only to the Engineer class of both sides. An oddity during a short time after the release of the game (the developers reacted to the community criticism later on) was that the Stinger was close to obsolete over short distances; it required two missiles to take down an aerial vehicle, while the AT4 only needed one. Called simply "Stinger".

FIM-92A Stinger - 70mm
Interestingly, this and all the other shoulder-fired launchers use the same reticule.

GP-30

Available for the "AK-47" and "AK-74" as an attachment. It is incorrectly referred to as the "GP-25", as when it is equipped, the "/GP-25" name is added to the end of the gun's name in the HUD.
