The Island (Ostrov) is a 2006 Russian drama movie directed by Pavel Lungin. It depicts a drama of a man who had to kill his mate during the war in order to save himself when the boat where the two were sailors was captured by a German ship. Thirty years later he becomes an Ortodox monk in a small monastery in North Russia. He still carries his sin and prays for mercy and forgiveness.

A German ship appears to be an armed fishing or whaling vessel. In reality similar ships were widely used by Kriegsmarine, serving as patrol boats or minesweepers.
