In the Black Sands (V chyornykh peskakh) is a 1973 (filmed 1972) Soviet adventure movie directed by Iskander Khamrayev. The story is set in early 1920s. In Central Asian desert a Red Army unit pursues Basmachi group under the command of Shamurad-Khan (Bimbolat Vatayev). Chary Esenov (Dagun Omayev), a shepherd from mountains, joins the Reds as he has blood feud to Shamurad-Khan.
The following weapons were used in the film In the Black Sands (V chyornykh peskakh):
Revolvers
Nagant M1895
The Commissar of Red unit (Gennadiy Nilov), Junior Commander (NCO) Rakhimov (Baba Annanov) and some Red Army soldiers and Basmachi carry Nagant M1895 revolvers. Due to a continuity error, the commander of Red unit Peltin (Leonhard Merzin) uses a Nagant instead of his Mauser C96 during the final battle. All revolvers are of anachronistic post-1930 version.
Pistols
Mauser C96
The commander of Red unit Peltin (Leonhard Merzin) carries a Mauser C96 pistol. Mauser pistols are also used by several Basmachi.
Luger P08 Artillery Model
A Luger P08 Artillery Model is a personal handgun of Shamurad-Khan (Bimbolat Vatayev).
Rifles
Mosin Nagant M1891
Mosin Nagant M1891 rifles are used by Red soldiers and Basmachi.
Mosin Nagant M1938 Carbine
Anachronistic Mosin Nagant M1938 Carbines are main guns of Red soldiers, including Chary Esenov (Dagun Omayev), Teleshov (Yuriy Dubrovin), and Kopylov (Nikolai Godovikov).
Winchester Model 1895
Many Basmachi, including Kurt (Dzhavlon Khamrayev), are armed with Winchester Model 1895 rifles. Chary Esenov (Dagun Omayev) is seen with a Winchester 95 in flashback scene.
Enfield Pattern 14 / M1917
Several Basmachi are seen with rifles that appear to be Enfield Pattern 14 or M1917 Enfield (both models can be found in Soviet movies).
Marlin Model 1889
In the flashback scene one of Shamurad-Khan's henchmen is armed with a briefly seen rifle that resembles Marlin Model 1889 (such rifle was used in other Lenfilm productions of 1970s, like White Sun of the Desert (Beloye solntse pustyni) and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson).
Machine Guns
Degtyaryov DP-27 (visually modified to resemble Lewis)
Degtyaryov DP-27 machine guns, visually modified to resemble Lewis, are used by Red soldiers and Basmachi. This is a single prop, reused in several scenes.
Maxim M1910
The Red unit has two Maxim machine guns, one of those is an M1910.
Maxim M1910/30
Another Maxim is an anachronistic M1910/30.
