I, Robot (2004)

I, Robot was the 2004 science fiction thriller starring Will Smith and directed by Alex Proyas. Though the book I, Robot was published in 1950 by science fiction author Isaac Asimov, it was actually a collection of nine short stories loosely related around a central concept of robots and how they relate to human beings. In some of the stories, there is the character Dr. Susan Calvin, chief robopsychologist at U.S. Robots and Mechanical Men (which was changed to U.S. Robotics for the film, which is a the name of a real company). Several movies have been made from some of the short stories, but a film of the entire book (and its different elements) has never been made. The 2004 film is only very loosely based on the book, introducing the character of Spooner as a 'technology' phobic Chicago Police officer in the year 2035 who must discover the truth behind the grisly death of his friend, who was an inventor at U.S. Robotics. The three laws of robotics, which featured heavily in the book, have a central role in the film.

The following guns appeared in the film I, Robot:

Detective Spooner's Pistol (A dressed up Taurus Model 85)

Detective Spooner (Will Smith) carries a futuristic custom pistol that is supposed to be a Semiautomatic 9mm. It is built from a 2 part plastic shell (with parts molded from a Walther P99) that has a real Taurus Model 85 .38 special revolver hidden inside. Lt. Bergin (Chi McBride) and all the other police officers appear to also have the sidearm. It is seen in the film next to loaded 9mm magazines, and is holstered with like magazines in adjoining mag pouches, but the real firearm inside the mockup is a .38 special revolver. The grip appears to be based on the Vektor CP-1Note: the same technique (enclosing a Taurus Model 85 in a plastic shell) to make a futuristic gun was used on the Television show Firefly. Malcolm Reynold's hero gun was also a modified Taurus Model 85. Also it was seen on the show Stargate: SG1 in Season 9, Episode 4: The Ties That Bind, where Vala Mal Doran uses it to threaten a former business partner.

Detective Spooner's backup Pistol (A dressed up Walther PPK)

Detective Spooner also carries a back-up piece on his ankle that is a dressed up/clamshelled walther PPK. He uses this when the robot takes his main pistol, and jumps through the window.

Unknown Futuristic Rifle

The Military teams carry an unusual rifle that looks like part paintball gun and part carbine.

Franchi SPAS-12

A Franchi SPAS-12 combination Pump and Semi-automatic shotgun is picked up and used by Lieutenant Bergin (Chi McBride) when the USR robots storm the police station, using it to take down several attackers before being disarmed. His SPAS is heavily modified with a futuristic looking top heat shield and an extended front end.

FN P90TR

The SWAT Team in the interrogation room all carry FN P90TR s with Aimpoint sights and a suppressor attached.

Heckler & Koch MP5K

The SWAT team that appears to apprehend Sonny is carrying a variety of weapons. We see the same futuristically-modified SPAS-12 that Lt. Bergin has, as well as the Spooner/Police Pistol. One of the obvious weapons is the Heckler & Koch MP5K with Aimpoint sight.

Unknown Futuristic Pistol

In this shot, the SWAT team member firing behind the officer with the MP5K is firing some sort of heavily modified pistol. It looks like a Beretta 92FS pistol with an elongated barrel and M16 style birdcage flash hider attached.

An MP5K, an unknown pistol and (in the back, a Spooner pistol) Also the two of the shooters are suddenly not wearing dark visors! Ooops.

Ruger MP9

In this shot we see two Ruger MP9s, three Heckler & Koch MP5Ks, one of the Futuristic shotgun used by everyone, and another one of the hither to unknown Futuristic Pistol.

Sites Spectre M4 "Modified"

Carried by Spooner and used by Susan Calvin, the futuristic Sub-machine gun is a Sites Spectre M4 (chambered in 9mm) enclosed in a custom plastic shell to mask it's true identity. In one of the closeup screenshots we can see the rear sight, selector switch and safety. In the movie, the trigger guard is removed, a finger grooved grip covers the original M4 grip and there is a PSG-01 style palm pad attached to the base of the pistol grip.

Rubber Shotguns

The Security and police tactical units carry these futuristic shotguns. Many of the background guns are rubber molds of the modified SPAS-12 shotgun seen fired by Lt. Bergin (Chi McBride).
