It should be noted that Dr. Ort-Meyer makes a common mistake here, which is to reference the designation of the AK as "AK-47" after the name of its designer (Mikhail Kalashnikov) and its year of invention, claiming the designation was by the Soviet Army itself. In reality, the AK-47 designation has always been purely Western in nature, as in the Soviet Union it was officially designated simply "AK," after ''Avtomat Kalashnikova'' (Russian: ''Автомат Калашникова'', "Kalashnikov's Automatic Device"). In Russia and other ex-Soviet States, the AK is simply referred to by the "AK" designation, and oftentimes together with its caliber (7.62x39mm) to avoid confusion with other variants. In recent years, however, due to the popularity of the "AK-47" designation abroad, this designation is now commonplace even in Russia and across the former USSR, probably since it is the term foreigners are acquainted with. Its official Russian designation remains "7,62mm ''Avtomat Kalashnikova'' (AK)."

Release Date: 2000
Developer: IO Interactive
Publisher: Eidos
Series: Hitman
Platforms: Microsoft Windows
Genre: Stealth/Third-Person Shooter

The following weapons appear in the video game Hitman: Codename 47:

Handguns

AMT Hardballer

The AMT Hardballer would become 47's favorite weapon in later installments of the series, but is far less prominent here. This is the only game in the series to refer to it by its original name. Erroneously shares ammo with the Beretta. Like all one-handed guns it can be dual wielded. It can be found in the pistol shooting range and being carried by an orderly in "Training", Tzun carries one in "The Lee Hong Assassination" but will use a Desert Eagle in the cutscene if 47 poisons Hong's soup, can be found in weapons caches in "Find the U'Wa Tribe" and "Plutonium Runs Loose" and is carried by the orderlies in "Meet Your Brother".

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "A fine stainless steel version of the Colt Government 1911A. With its 7 rounds of .45 ACP it is a powerful package."

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta 92FS is used by most characters in the game and a suppressed version is available. One can be found in the pistol shooting range in "Training" and it is used by the limousine driver in "Ambush at the Wang Fou Restaurant", the Blue Lotus & Red Dragon Triad negotiators and the police officers (including the Chief) in "The Massacre at Cheung Chau Fish Restaurant", Lee Hong's bodyguards in "Lee Hong Assassination", the hotel security guards in "Traditions of the Trade" and by Arkadij Jegorov, Ivan Zilvanovitch and some of the sailors in "Plutonium Runs Loose".

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "A fine, semi-automatic 9mm pistol. This model is used by military and law-enforcement units worldwide. It holds 15 round[s] in a [magazine]."

Desert Eagle Mark XIX

The Desert Eagle Mark XIX is featured in the game and can be found in the pistol shooting range in "Training" and is used by Pablo Ochoa's officers in "Say Hello to My Little Friend" and Frantz Fuchs' bodyguards in "Traditions of the Trade".

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "[A] very fine choice. A sturdy and noisy companion - but you will still get the last word in most discussions with this one. It's a .50 Action Express, with a capacity of 7 bullets in a [magazine]. It's a semi-automatic, 6" barrel, 15.9 cm x 32 mms. Sights: fully adjustable Millett 3 dot. It's a loud show stopper so don't use it where neatness counts."

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

The Heckler & Koch MP5A3 is featured in the game and is portrayed as being significantly more accurate than the Uzi. It can be found in the SMG shooting range in "Training" and is used by mercenaries in "Plutonium Runs Loose", Romanian tactical teams in "The Setup" and some of the 48 clones in "Meet Your Brother". It can also be found in a locker in this mission.

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "A very persuasive item! A choice for the true professional, emphasized by its widespread use among SWAT teams and special forces around the world! 9mm Parabellum in staggered magazines; 15- or 30-round capacity. Blowback operation, closed breech with floating firing pin. Rate of fire: 99 rounds/minute. Size 23.75", weight 6.24 lbs empty. Rear aperture sights adjustable for windage, and front post adjustable for elevation."

The Heckler & Koch MP5SD3 can be purchased by 47. As the only suppressed automatic weapon it is likely to see a fair amount of use by the player. The rest of the 48 clones in "Meet Your Brother" will be armed with these.

IMI UZI

The Uzi is fairly common in the game; one can be found in the SMG shooting range in "Training", the Blue Lotus Triad members in "Kowloon Triads in Gang War" and "Ambush at the Wang Fou Restaurant" use them as do their Red Dragon counterparts in the latter mission and in "Lee Hong Assassination". Uzis are also used by some of the bikers in "Gunrunner's Paradise" and one can be found in a small weapons cache in "The Setup".

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "The choice of a discerning connoisseur - when a high profile army like the Israeli swear by it, then you know it is quality hardware! This submachine gun [with a] caliber [of 9x19 mm] Parabellum or .45 ACP[,] has a magazine capacity of 20/25/32 with a blowback operation, closed breech with floating firing pin - size is 17.1", weight 8.4 lbs empty. Shotguns

Franchi PA3/215

The Franchi PA3/215 appears under its correct name and is one of the game's rarer weapons, being only available in four missions: available to buy from the menu in "Traditions of the Trade" and "Gunrunner's Paradise", in a weapons cache in "Plutonium Runs Loose" and in an upstairs lab and across from Dr. Kovacs' office in "The Setup". It has an unrealistic magazine capacity of 8, when the real-life PA3/215 only holds 3 rounds. Strangely enough, the inventory menu screen lists its correct magazine capacity as "3" instead of "8."

Also note the correct magazine capacity of "3" instead of the game's incorrect "8." In real life, the PA3/215 only holds 3 rounds. Finally, note the weight and length are listed as "2 kg" and "469.9mm." While the latter is correct, the former is actually 2.7 kg

Mossberg 500AT

The Mossberg 500AT, referred to as the Mossberg Persuader, is quite common throughout the game and can be found in the shooting range in "Training", being carried by some of the Red Dragon Triad Members in "Ambush at the Wang Fou Restaurant", inside a flower box at the florist in "Traditions of the Trade" (a reference to Terminator 2: Judgment Day), inside a locker on the roof and in a room on the third floor in "The Setup" and inside a locker in "Meet Your Brother".

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "This affordable pump-action shotgun is a sure[-]fire hit within 50 meters. If you prefer adjustable open sights, the Monte Carlo [style] stock promotes fast sight alignment. Available in 12 ga. with [a] choice of either 20" fully rifled barrel for sabot or standard slugs, or 20" fixed Improved Cylinder barrel for rifled slugs or buckshot."

Assault Rifles

AK-47

The AK-47 features in the game and is portrayed as being very inaccurate. It can be found in several weapons caches and used by some of the Red Dragon Triad members in "Lee Hong Assassination" and by some of Pablo Ochoa's soldiers in "Find the U'Wa Tribe", "The Jungle God" and "Say Hello to My Little Friend", where it can also be found in several weapons caches.

An AKM is used as a more detailed model seen in the inventory view.

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "You have a picked a classic and longtime favorite for warring factions around the world. This weapon was developed for the Russian motorized infantry, and adopted for service by the Soviet Army in 1949, which designated it the AK-47 after the inventor Kalashnikov and the year he invented it. It's a very simply and sturdy assault rifle with big power and no frills. Technical specs: caliber 7.62 x 39 [mm]. Magazine capacity: 30 [rounds]. Ideal range up to 1,500 meters. Rear [sight] adjustable for [elevation], and front post adjustable for [windage]."

It should be noted that Dr. Ort-Meyer makes a common mistake here, which is to reference the designation of the AK as "AK-47" after the name of its designer (Mikhail Kalashnikov) and its year of invention, claiming the designation was by the Soviet Army itself. In reality, the AK-47 designation has always been purely Western in nature, as in the Soviet Union it was officially designated simply "AK," after Avtomat Kalashnikova (Russian: Автомат Калашникова, "Kalashnikov's Automatic Device"). Its official Russian designation remains "7,62mm Avtomat Kalashnikova (AK)."

The AK-103 can be found in "Find the U'Wa Tribe", "The Jungle God" and "Say Hello to My Little Friend" used by most of Pablo Ochoa's soldiers and in weapon caches. Two can also be found in the shooting range in "Training" where it is erroneously referred to by Ort-Meyer as an AK-47. It is used by a few of Ochoa's soldiers in "Find the U'wa Tribe" and can be found in a weapons cache, one is hidden in the temple in "The Jungle God", some of the mercenaries use them in "Plutonium Runs Loose" instead of an Uzi and one can be found in a room on the third floor of the asylum in "The Setup".

Sniper Rifles

Blaser R93 Tactical

The Blaser R93 Tactical is the most common and cheapest sniper rifle in the game, and is notably featured as Agent 47's weapon of choice in the game's official cover artwork (before the Walther WA2000 became the signature sniper rifle in later installments). Referred to by Ort-Meyer as the Tactical version but seems to be the long barreled LRS2 version. It can be found in the shooting range in "Training", hidden in an alleyway in "Ambush at the Wang Fou Restaurant", in the basement of the restaurant and in the guard quarters in "The Lee Hong Assassination" and in guard towers in "Find the U'Wa Tribe" and "Say Hello to My Little Friend". It can be equipped by 47 in "Kowloon Triads in Gang War" to assassinate the Red Dragon negotiator, which is the most common way to complete the mission.

Dr. Ort-Meyer: "The R93 Tactical covers a wide range of applications owing to its outstanding accuracy over long distances. Walther WA 2000

Becoming much more prominent as Agent 47's favorite sniper rifle in later installments, the Walther WA 2000 is only available in three of the final levels and is very expensive. It can be purchased to use in "Gunrunner's Paradise" for $9000, can be found in a weapons cache in "Plutonium Runs Loose" and can be found in the room opposite Dr. Kovacs' office in "The Setup".

The Walther WA 2000 is notably featured in the main menu screen, as well as promotional artwork for the game.

Machine Guns

M60

The M60 is an uncommon weapon, found mostly in Colombia during the mission "Find the U'Wa Tribe" in weapons caches and used by some of the soldiers; an M60 is also wielded by Pablo Ochoa, one of 47's primary targets, during the mission "Say Hello to my Little Friend" and can also be found in the hangar. One is also used by a Blue Lotus Triad member in a helicopter in the mission "Kowloon Triads in Gang War".

M134 Minigun

The M134 Minigun, though extremely powerful, slows 47 to a crawl when carrying it, limiting its usefulness to "Meet Your Brother". One can be found in a supply tent inside the camp in the mission "Say Hello to my Little Friend" and one can also be found inside the maintenance room in the mission "Meet Your Brother", whose loading screen prominently displays it.
