Heaven's Burning (1997)

Heaven’s Burning is a 1997 crime drama set in southern Australia. The film focuses on the tragic story of Collin O'Brien (Russell Crowe) who takes a job driving a getaway car during a bank robbery. When the robbery goes horribly wrong, the robbers kidnap Japanese tourist Midori Takada (Youki Kudoh), who’s just run away from her husband during their honeymoon in Australia.

After a while, the robbers decide to kill their hostage but Collin, who now sees himself getting dragged into a downward violent spiral, saves her. The two then take off on a journey through the Australian outback making a living by robbing banks, with an unlikely but intense love relationship developing between the two of them. During their journey, they are chased by the police, Midori’s dishonoured husband Yukio Takada (Kenji Isomura) who has turned insane plus members of the Afghan emigrant family who planned the bank robbery.

The following weapons were used in the film Heaven's Burning:

Handguns

Smith & Wesson Model 28

The Smith & Wesson Model 28 revolver is seen used by both Colin (Russell Crowe) and Midori (Youki Kudoh).

Smith & Wesson Model 28 - .357 magnum
Collin unexpectedly interferes with the Smith & Wesson Model 28 when the kidnappers decide to kill Midori after the failed bank robbery.
When destiny catches up with the two run-aways, Midori aims the Smith & Wesson Model 28 at her husband Yukio who’s been chasing the couple halfway through southern Australia. Note how massive the gun looks in her frail hands.

Beretta 92FS

A Beretta 92FS is the gun of choice for Mahood (Robert Mammone), the second of the Afghan brothers.

Beretta 92FS - 9x19mm
Knock, knock, who's there?
Mahood keeping the police at bay during the escape from the bank with Japanese tourist Midori as hostage.

M1911A1

During the bank robbery at the beginning of the movie, a M1911A1 is used by one of the Afghan brothers, Gulbuddin (Salvatore Coco).

Colt M1911A1 - .45 ACP
Gulbuddin going for the bank teller’s counter. Note that he keeps a left-handed grip.
Gulbuddin about to kill the hostage, who's now seen his face and has become a liability.

Springfield Armory Omega

Several characters are using what appears to be the same Springfield Armory Omega. It’s first used during the bank robbery scene by Tony (Patrick Dugin) and the security guard, who may have picked it up when it was dropped by Tony. Later on it’s used by Midori’s husband Yukio (Kenji Isomura) who uses it for the remainder of the movie.

Springfield Armory Omega
In one of the more noteworthy scenes of the movie, Yukio is handed the Springfield Armory Omega by his translator so that he can revenge his honour. He picks it up and while studying the gun he accidentally fires it, shooting the translator. There does not seem to be any recoil so the shot’s probably CGI for the actors safety.
Yukio making a kind yet persuasive request for directions.
Tony making sure nobody moves during the bank robbery.
A security guard, who’s probably picked up the gun from the bank, taking aim at the get-away car. He fires, and accidentally shoots and kills a woman driving with a baby in the backseat, the vehicle careens out of control and crashes, likely killing the child. In reality, a reckless act like this would have serious legal repercussions.

Luger P08

The Afghan Godfather Boorjan (Petru Gheorghiu) keeps a Luger P08 as his personal sidearm.

Luger P08 - 9x19mm
Boorjan keeps a Luger P08 on Collin during the motel room interrogation scene.
