Fallout Tactics (2001)

Fallout Tactics is (also know as Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel) is a real-time tactics role-playing game (RTT-RPG) based on the post-apocalyptic Fallout universe.
It is a PC-exclusive title, developed by Micro Forté and published by 14 Degrees East.

OVERVIEW:

  • Almost every weapon in the game can fire in burst mode. This means that the character fires in short bursts, and not that the actual weapon is capable of firing in burst mode! (The most common burst mode is the 3-round burst, but some weapons can fire in 5- or 8-round burst.)
  • Fully automatic fire mode in not available.
  • Each item (weapon, ammunition, consumable,...) has a certain weight.
  • There is a large range of ammunition types available for the weapons: For example the Beretta 92FS can fire 9mm Ball, 9mm JHP and 9mm AP bullets. There are also fictional ammunition types, like the .50DU (Depleted Uranium) for the Desert Eagle or the EMP Shells for the shotguns.

The following weapons make an appearance in the game Fallout Tactics:

Handguns

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta 92FS makes an appearance in this game. It is the starting weapon of Farsight and Stitch. It has a 15-round magazine and can fire all 3 types of 9mm ammo. Incorrectly appears as "M92FS" in the game.
The description of the weapon in the inventory: One of the more common 9mm pistols, the Beretta is popular due to its reliability, 15 round magazine and good looks.

Mauser C96

The Mauser C96 appears as "HSI Mauser" in the game. Holds 7 rounds (instead of 10) and the characters cannot be ordered to fire it in short bursts. It's a rare weapon in the game.
The description of the weapon in the inventory: A Mauser M/96 in 9x19mm Parabellum. In excellent condition. Extremely accurate.

Browning HP

The Browning Hi-Power. Comes with a 12-round mag but it weighs 6 pounds unloaded.
The description of the weapon in the inventory: Browning High Power Pistol. Originally made in Belgium, construction of North American models had a renaissance in the early 2010s.

Casull Revolver

In game it's a .44 magnum revolver of unusual power. In real life these are chambered in a much more powerful .454 cassull round.

Colt M1911A1

The classic Colt M1911 A1. Easy to use, accurate and with tremendous stopping power, this weapon will not let you down.

IMI/Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark XIX

Perhaps the only game in the world where the the Mark XIX appears as "Desert Eagle Mark XIX" and not just simply as "Desert Eagle". The most powerful non-fictional sidearm in the game.

Zip Gun

In real world, "Zip gun" is a generic term for improvised firearms, put together from available materials and made to fire (usually small-caliber) scavenged ammo.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5SD1

The Heckler & Koch MP5SD1 appears as "MP5 H&K" in Fallout: Tactics. It is the starting "automatic" weapon in the game. Holds 30 rounds. Firing it in bursts is very effective, because the characters always fire 6 bullets after every mouse click.
The description of the weapon in the inventory: MP5 H&K. Probably the most widely used and trusted sub-machinegun of the late 20th century.

The MP5SD1 has a receiver can in place of the buttstock.

In-game inventory model.

Sten gun

The 9mm Sten Gun was developed by the British during WW2 as a cheap alternative to the more expensive Thompson SMG offered by the U.S. The Sten proved to be extremely reliable and, due to its fairly loose tolerances, could perform in poor conditions much more reliably than ostensibly better weapons.

Tommy Gun

Called by it's nickname the "Tommy Gun". the Thompson M1928 appears once again.

IMI Uzi

The UZI submachine gun was developed in Israel by designer Uziel Gal in around 1949, and manufactured by IMI (now IWI Ltd) since about 1951. UZI had been adopted by police and military of more than 90 countries, including Israel (now only in reserve), Germany, Belgium. It was also produced under license in Belgium by FN Herstal, and without license - in Croatia.

FN P90

Called FN P90c in F:T. Has a 50-round magazine but fires 9mm bullets in Tactics. In-game weapon description: The Fabrique Nationale P90c was just coming into use at the time of the war. The weapon's bullpup layout, and compact design, make it easy to control. The durable P90c is prized for its reliability, and high firepower in a ruggedly-compact package.

Walther MPL

Walther MP series of submachine guns included two similar weapons which differed only in the length of the barrel - the Maschinen Pistole Lang (long submachine gun) or MPL in short, and Maschinen Pistole Kurz (short submachine gun) or MPK. Both weapons were developed during late 1950s and early 1960s, and mass production commenced in 1963.

Pump-Action Shotgun

A generic pump-Action shotgun of unknown make and model. it carries five shells of 12 gauge.

Assault Rifles

AK-47

After the Great War, AK-47s were produced by different workshops and remaining factories throughout the Wasteland.
Incorrectly depicted as firing 7,62x51mm NATO instead of 7,62x39mm (although it could be possible that post-War produced copies were intentionally made to fire more common (in USA) 7,62mm NATO that could be recovered from many surviving pre-war ammo stocks)

FN FAL

The FN FAL is another returning weapon to the fallout universe. It fires the 7.62mm ammo and costs 4000 dollars.

Called Steyr in the game. Has a 40-round magazine and is very accurate.

In-game inventory model.

M14

The M-14 succeeded the M1 Garand as the standard US Army Rifle. It chambered the NATO standard 7.62mm round and like its predecessor, was noted for its reliability and ease of operation. Incorrectly depicted as firing .303 British instead of 7,62mm NATO

In-game inventory model.

Colt M16A1

The M16A1 was the chief rifle used by the US marines during the start of the 21st century, and was later to be replaced by the M4 carbine. Composed of durable aluminum alloy and hearty plastic. It is incorrectly said to fire the 7.62mm rounds but based on the picture shown on the wiki, it looks more like an AR-10 that does in fact fire the 7.62mm NATO rounds.

Ruger AC556F

The Ruger AC556F is a development of the Ruger Mini 14, a 5.56 mm assault rifle originally used only by police forces, but also popular on the open market. A large magazine and full auto fire makes this weapon a real crowd pleaser.

In-game inventory model.

XL70E3

This weapon is superior to both the AK47 and the M16A1, but the magazine is inferior to both rifles.

In our reality, the XL70 was a prototype of the L85/L86 family of weapons.

In-game inventory model.

Heavy Weapons

Browning M2

A heavy machine gun developed in 1918 and still in use right up until the outbreak of war. This weapon is still widely used in the United States Military as a mounted machine gun on light vehicles, such as the "Humvee" and the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected troop carrier. (MRAP)

M60

The Classic M60 GPMG makes its appearance in Fallout Tactics.

M249 SAW

The Belgian made M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) was adopted widely in the late 20th Century as a squad level machine gun, vastly increasing the firepower available to individual squads. The real life Minimi M249 SAW uses the 5.56mm round, rather than the 7.62mm it is chambered for in Fallout Tactics. Perhaps, it should be a Mk 48 Mod 0, which is a re-chambered version of the original Minimi on request of the U.S. NAVSPECWAR and issued to U.S. Navy SEALs and U.S. Marines.
