The primary "creatures" in the series are a murderous female race called Diclonius, and they can only be harmed by high caliber bullets such as .50 caliber bullets.

.50 caliber Desert Eagle Used by Bando when he learns that only high caliber weapons can harm Lucy.

Barrett M82 Used by a S.A.T sniper to shoot Lucy in the head. She was unable to deflect the massive .50 caliber slug, thus the resulting impact caused brain damage and the creation of a split personality ~ which in turn played for an important plot device in the series.
