Detroit is a 2017 historical drama / thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Mark Boal, marking their third feature film collaboration, following Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker. Based on true events, the film depicts the racially-charged 1967 12th Street Riots in Detroit and the Algiers Motel incident in which three black men were killed and nine other civilians were badly beaten after Detroit Police officers, Michigan State Troopers and the Michigan National Guard raided the motel under the pretense of looking for gunmen. The film stars John Boyega, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie and Will Poulter, and is set to be released on August 4th, 2017.
